The Former Director of Ghana Health Services, Prof. Agyeman Badu Akosa has proposed that allowances of trainee nurses be scrapped.
According to him, the Nursing Training Colleges have now gained the tertiary status and the trainees therefore could apply for the tertiary education loans in support of their education
Speaking to Hello FM's King Edward, Prof Akosah disclosed that the initial objective of the allowances was to motivate people into the profession but it has now become an enviable and noble one and that he sees no reason why the government should continue giving allowances to nurses.
Besides people now go there just because of the allowance but not the interest of the profession, he added. Prof. Akosah believes that scrapping of the allowance will increase the admission in the various nursing institutions.
