It is becoming increasingly difficult for rescuers in South Africa to find the Ghanaian UNICEF Director who went missing in that country. Charlotte Nana Yaa Nikoi according to local media was last seen on March 21 as she walked on the Table Mountain on Human Rights Day. News24 in South Africa reported that on Wednesday, an extensive ground and aerial search was conducted to locate her but without success.
A spokesperson for the South African Wilderness Search and Rescue team, Johan Marais is reported to have said that despite volunteers working with Skymed aerial rescue services to search the mountain, there was no sign of Yaa Nikoi. “We are 95% sure that she is not in the area we went to search for her. Which means she came off the mountain and was either taken away, or went away from that area,” Marais said. Yaa Nikoi’s colleagues at Unicef are worried about her disappearance, and have circulated a picture of her to help in the search.
Police have asked that anybody with information on her whereabouts contact them on 021 461 8067 or 072 560 2624. At the time of her disappearance, Nikoi wore light-blue shorts, a cream, black and brown cardigan, a sleeveless black top, brown sneakers, and oval-shaped glasses.

I will not blame the husband or daughter too much. The Argentina lady who joined us up decided not to go further when we were almost at the top and decided to go down on her own. She was very fine and we saw her at the base when we eventually came down. Like I said before there is more to the story. She wandered away from the path probably at the base. There are always parties climbing up or going down and you will be fine. But the mountain is no joke. Two hours climbing vertical and sweating it out is a challenge. She should however had pulled through and continued with the husband and daughter and not insisted on going back down by herself. How will you feel if you are almost at the peak of such a challenge and a member of the party gives up on you and decides I cannot do it anymore. There is definitely safety in numbers. I am talking as a survivor of Table Mountain, I climbed up and down Devil's Peak last Sunday. It was very challenging experience but truly worth it.
@Adamah, she went with the husband and her daughter. According to the husband and the daughter's accounts, Nana Yaa decided to stop the climbing in the middle of the adventure and headed towards the base of the maintain. Question is how could the husband allow the wife alone to descend at that lonely and treacherous maintain ? I believe the husband will have a lot of questions to answer from the law enforcement agencies.
There is definitely more to the story. South Africa especially Table Mountain is pretty safe. It is likely she left the area and wandered elsewhere. The mountain is impressive and it is no joke climbing it up and coming down. I did it with a friend we went up with another Argentina lady who joined us on the way up. She was on her own so it is not out of the realm of possibilities that Yaa was on her own. You need a lot of water and stamina to climb up it. It truly is one of the Seven wonders of the world.
PEACE FM PLEASE STOP THIS SHORT WORDS , WHAT IS SA ? , PLEASE WRITE IT SOUTH AFRICA .. THIS IS A SERIOUS CASE HOW CAN A HUMAN BEING OF THIS AGE GOT MISSING .. HONESTLY SOUTH AFRICANS ARE DANGEROUS PEOPLE ...
I can think far oo! Does it mean she went there alone or what?
