A 47-year-old fraudster in Kumasi, who has duped many unsuspecting people under the pretext of helping them to be appointed as ambassadors by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, has been arrested by the police.

George Kodua, according to the police, also promised to aid some of his victims to be appointed as Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), win juicy government contracts for them to become rich and secure visas for them to travel abroad.

The fraudster, nicknamed as ‘Nana Yaw’, was said to have assured his victims that he would use his links with the Ashanti Regional Minister and the Defence Minister to fulfill his promises to them, but he failed to deliver.

Police checks have however revealed that Kodua had no links with the aforementioned ministers. He only used their names and top positions in government to defraud them.

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ken Yeboah, stated that the fraudster charged his victims monies ranging from GH¢4,000 to GH¢6,000, but he failed to honour his part of the deal, leading to his arrest.

Addressing the media in Kumasi on Monday, he noted that the police apprehended Kodua at Krofrom, a suburb of Kumasi on Tuesday, May 24, this year, and he is currently assisting the police in investigations.

According to him, Kodua managed to dupe several people and after realizing that he might eventually be arrested by the police, he went into hiding until the police managed to smoke him out from his hideout.

DCOP Ken Yeboah said during thorough interrogations by the police, Kodua could not prove that he indeed he had links with the aforementioned ministers, saying “he failed to provide evidence of paying monies to any government official.”

He said during a search in Kodua’s residence, the police found 37 application letters with CVs and result slips applying for ambassadorial, municipal/district chief executive positions and others at the Flagstaff House, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other government agencies.

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander said the police suspects that several other people might have also fallen prey to Kodua’s fraudulent deals.

He urged persons that have been duped by the suspect to assist the police in investigations.
