The killing of Captain Maxwell A. Mahama is a clear indication of excessive hatred Ghanaians have for one another these days, Emmanuel Bombande, a security expert and former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs has said.
According to him, the level of intolerance among Ghanaians is increasing daily, a situation which requires immediate action in dealing with it.
Speaking on the development in an interview with Nana Aba Anamoah on GHOne on Tuesday May 30, Mr Bombande said: “Keep in mind that the gory pictures of Captain Mahama that have been posted all over on social media have been so insensitive and in my view it has also created a lot of the depression around the country today.”
“I think the level of intolerance in our country is increasing and we need to be able to do introspection. We need to be able to ask ourselves as a people where we have gone wrong.”
He added: “Why are we in a situation in which even women, who are procreators, do not hesitate to mete out such violence with the full knowledge that they are killing another human being and yet they will go ahead and do it the way they did with such impunity.
“I think there are more questions that [this] sadness brings and when a society is not able to ask questions, we do not acknowledge what is wrong with us, we will not be able to find the way out.
“I am saying that in our Ghanaian society we have lost compassion and there is so much hatred within us and we need to examine ourselves and find out what is going wrong.”

Our state institutions must be strengthened beyond what they are now. If we want a society that is accommodating then people must know and understand our laws and must be prepared to appreciate the duties of the various state institutions and also obey laws!
WE HAVE NO IDEA WHAT OUR SOCIETY IS OR HAS ALREADY DEGENERATED INTO. OUR SITUATION IS LIKE AN ICEBURG, THIS IS JUST THE TIP OF IT. IT HAPPENED HOPEFULLY TO GIVE OUR LEADERS A SENSE OF HOW THE PEOPLE FEEL DEEPLY ABOUT THE CORRUPTION IN THE COUNTRY. NOW I FEEL WE ALL HAVE THE BLOOD OF THIS YOUNG MAN ON OUR HANDS AS A PEOPLE. OUR LEADERS HAVE FAILED BIG TIME AND THEY MUST SIT UP AND REMEDY THE SITUATION ...OR ELSE WHAT IS COMING IS NOT PALATABLE. NOT TO SOUND LIKE A DOOMS DAY PROPHET. IT IS THE TRUE REFLECTION OF OUR STATE AS A NATION. YOUNG PEOPLE FEEL GRAVELY LET DOWN. NO JOBS EVEN FOR GRADUATES, NURSES, TEACHERS ETC. AND WE HAVE POLITICIANS GETTING AWAY WITH BILLIONS OF STATE MONEY. GREED, GREED, GREED. SELFISHNESS IS THE WAY OF LEADERSHIP. WHERE ARE THE NKRUMAHS AND AGGREYS? WHY?
As Ghanaians, we have lost our morality and only interested in material things, Thus is due to leadership failures in the country. We must pause and ask, "what happened" for us to be so callous, dishonest and deceptive. Where is the leadership from politicians, the chiefs, the judiciary, and the clergy? Our motives are always centered on self, and very sad when the exploited also support and encourage this evil in our country which we have exported to our communities in the diaspora. Let stand up against this evil self centered leadership.
It is politicians who have caused this. sometimes I wonder whether they have day jobs at all. They are always in the media accusing one another of this or that. Just read the media today and you would understand what I am saying. Truth is a casualty in Ghana. We don't even know what truth is
You said you are security expect but it seems you don't understand the cause of this lynching, may be you are among the upper class so you don't see it. Our security system and judicial system has failed us people do not trust this 2 organizations. Justice is on sales in Ghana if you have money you will get justice or walk away free when you commit crime. people give instance justice because the criminal will go to court and pay his or her way through and the next you will see him walking in the street. Before these things will stop our securities and judicial must stand up to task. Somebody who has gone to steal cassava will be sentence to 2 years in prison and arm robber will be acquitted and discharge because arm robber was able to take a lawyer to defend him and through his lawyer he was able to find his way through. The people at bottom do not have trust in the police and judges.
Mr Bombadane hit the nail on the head ; the Ghanaian society has become an EVIL society and a collective citizens full hatred between ourselves ; to me the reasons are simple; the non application of the law by our judges ; the system is CORRUPTED and WEAK ; WE HAVE NO PURPOSE AND AIMLESS SOCIETY ;WE ARE HYPOCRATES AND PRETEND TO LIVE IN THIS HAPPY SOCIETY BUT VERY FALSE; WE ARE NOT A HAPPY SOCIETY ; BUT WE PRETEND THE THE SOCIETY IS NORMAL ; DO WE WANT TO BUILD A NATION THROUGH HARD WORK OR DO WE WANT TO BUILD A NATION OF ANGRY CITIZENS WITH GREED !!!!!!; the whole nation have been diluted by evil deeds because some of our past leaders have deliberately sowed the seeds of stilling and lutting of the nation resources ;there is rising hatred amongst Ghanaians because a few GREEDY people have tended to still our resources whilst others suffer but the operators of law are WEAK ; the case of 'galamasey' sets this example in context ; a few big men behind these evil trade deliberately pay poor local people to dig the gold for the them whilst they earn peanuts whilst politicians for years politicians tout this as employment opportunity a -a false employment opportuniy ; you have politicians for years lutting and selling state assets to themselves ; you have civil servants and CEO's lutting state monies and nobody does anything because the judges are taking bribes ; the funny thing is that a person still a goat and is jailed 10 years whilst some body stills millions and is not even questioned by the police ; the destitute and poor in society are so angry when they see these people ride in big cars ; build big houses ; it is this fr=ustration that builds up and seeds as EVIL in the Ghanaia persona .
