Government has withdrawn the appointment of Dr. Baffour Awuah as the new Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS). No explanation has so far been given for the government’s decision.
Dr. Baffour Awuah, was appointed in a letter signed by the Executive Secretary to the President, Nana Bedietuo Asante on November 5, 2019. He was given the new role following the reassignment of the former GHS boss, Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare to the Presidency as an advisor on health-related issues.
Before the appointment, Dr. Awuah was the Medical Director of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. Dr. Awuah was to head the GHS in an acting capacity “…pending receipt of the constitutionally required advice of the governing board of the Service, given in consultation with the Public Services Commission.”
The graduate of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) School of Business and Consultant Radiation Oncologist who has been working at the KATH since June 2010 also served as the Personal Assistant of the Health Minister, Kwaku Ayemang Manu.
This latest development also comes days after it emerged that a group of health workers at KATH were said to have petitioned the President to reconsider the appointment of their Medical Director, who they say has frustrated them in the past. However, Dr. Baffour Awuah is also alleged to have formed a pro-NPP group to rubbish the claims of the said petitioners.

Slowly Politics is taken over everything in our Country. Why should it be so. It is not everyone who will like to be in front line. If we are not careful we will be putting square perks in round holes
Sad for Ghana. Evenning health we are playing politics. NADAA this is disappointing
The question is does Dr Awuah qualify for the job is he also a Ghanaian? NPP has taken employment in Ghana to a different level in annals of Ghana. Why should employment in Ghana be based on a party card not qualification and experience? And Rawlings is associating himself with this wicked person??? There must be concerted effort to get rid of Akufo-Ado in particular and NPP in General. For Ghana to be peaceful and a happy place to live again, every effort must be made by everyone if not everyone at least majority of Ghanaians to get rid of Akufo-Addo as he is too partisan, vindictive and divisive. I have a strong believe that the only time Ghana can see prosperity is when everyone contribute his /her quota for us to get rid of a third class degree holder without any law certificate. I am so much disappointed in Akuffo-Addo such that at his age I didn't expect him to be behaving the way he is behaving. To the extent that his so called FHS is going to fissile away the moment his is no more. At his age he allowed the young ones around him to be pushing him around, not decisive because he knows he is not secure so that if he doesn't kowtow to them the consequences will be dire.
What about Kofi Asare Brako at the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The minister appointed "Abate" without the necessary due diligence. Can the minister tell us the role Abate played in 2016. In 2012 elections he stood as Independent candidate at Oda Constituency under support of his friends in the NDC led by his friends Afriyie Ankrah and his brothers. During the election period you could see Abate at NDC office at Kokomelemele. In Oda itself he threatened to beat one of the well known constituency party member which trended on the social media for the mere fact that the said gentleman was always challenging him to come clean. His appointment must also be terminated immediately before we organise demonstration against the the Sports Minister
