The interior ministry has said November 8 will not be a holiday despite the scheduled Farmers’ Day celebration.
The agriculture ministry had earlier indicated that the Farmers’ Day celebration would be brought forward to November 8 from December 6.
The interior ministry said the holiday would be on December 6, in line with the trend of having it on the first Friday of December; a day before the general election.
The statement signed by the Interior Minister, Hon Henry Quartey, said; "the general public is hereby informed that Friday, 8th November 2024, is NOT a Public Holiday even though the 2024 National Farmers’ Day will be observed on that day.
However, Friday, 6th December 2024, which marks Farmers’ Day, remains a Statutory Public Holiday and will be observed as such throughout the country.
2024 Farmer's Day
This year, the Ministry has decided against regional-level celebrations. Instead, each region is permitted to nominate winners for ten regional award categories.
These awardees will travel to Accra, where they will be honored at the national Awards Night Ceremony.
Regional Ministers will present awards to honorees from their respective regions during the ceremony.
The Ministry has directed that all expenses related to the participation of regional award winners, including travel, accommodation, and meals, be covered by their respective Regional Coordinating Councils.
Additionally, Regional Ministers and Regional Directors of Agriculture are expected to attend the Awards Night Ceremony, with their participation costs also borne by their councils.
