An all-purpose Centre of Technology would be put up for the Women's Training Institute of the Department of Community Development in Ho.

The Centre is to transform skills training in the school into a more functional and job market oriented one.

Dr Ken Kwaku, a former employee of the World Bank, is putting up the single-story building for the project in honour of his mother Mrs Rebecca Agroh who founded the Institute and was its first Principal.

He said the Centre would be equipped by a consortium of organizations and friends and will provide three years of management skills.

Dr Kwaku said the centre should serve as a monument to his mother's passion for providing education for people and empowerment of women.

He said the centre would stretch the horizons of those passing through the Institute, give them a store of skills comparable to the best anywhere on the globe.

Ms Bernice Aculey, the Principal, commended Dr Kwaku for his help to the Institute over a long time, including sponsorship of needy students.

She said the Centre, to be called Rebecca Agroh Memorial Centre of Technology, would transform teaching and learning and improve administration in the Institute.

Mr Gideon Quarcoo, Deputy Minister of Communications, appealed to the students to use the Internet for gaining knowledge and not for entertainment and fashion alone.

Lt-Colonel Cyril Necku (RTD), the Deputy Volta Regional Minster, called Mrs Agroh an illustrious woman who did not only work as a public servant for her salary but also worked assiduously to leave a mark.

He said the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) would support to bring the project to fruition.
