Obrempong Nungma Nii Alabi Dzenge VI, Mankralo of Nungua Traditional Area, has appealed to the people to use this year’s Homowo festival to unite for the development of the area.

He urged citizens to bury all their differences, do away with litigations, petty squabbles and all divisive tendencies that had retarded the progress of the area.

Obrempong Dzenge made the call on Sunday during the performance of their annual Kple-Dzoo custom where Numo Borketey Lawer Tsuru, Shitse of the Nungua Traditional Area, led the people to through the rituals.

Earlier in the day, some emissaries of Nungua had brought corn, the traditional food for the Homowo festival from far away Oyibi, the ancestral village that supplied the corn, and was received at Baatsonaa by Nii Borketey Asuade, Baatsonaa Mantse for onward submission to the Shitse (the priestly king of the Nungua Traditional Area).

The Mankralo said plans were far advanced to establish a university at Nungua to ensure that the area had a tertiary academic institution for the indigenes to further their education.

Nii Bortey Okplen Djalesane, Nungua Oblantai Mantse (youth chief), assured the youth that the Traditional Council was doing everything possible to establish industries in the area to enable majority of them secure employment.

He expressed optimism that this would not only minimise social vices in the area, but it would also reduce the crime wave.

Nii Baatsonaa said there was the need for the people of Nungua to co-exist peacefully in order for the area to progress and develop.

The chiefs and people of the Nungua Traditional Area would celebrate this year’s Homowo festival on the first Saturday of July.
