Mr George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, a flagbearer aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said the candidate with the best message and policies would emerge the flagbearer at the parties next presidential primaries.

He explained that Ghanaians and the Party delegates are yearning for a flagbearer with workable polices to improve their living conditions.

“The forward movement of our great Party, the NDC and the nation is not based on legacy and old age, but the best workable and practical ideas, which would bring progress in the lives of party members and all Ghanaians,” Mr Ricketts-Hagan said in Accra.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at the Parliament House, after a five-day emergency recall meeting, Mr Ricketts-Hagan said whether young or old, the next flagbearer of the Party should bring fresh ideas and polices that would enhance its fortunes at the next general election.

He said he was the best candidate to lead the Party into the 2020 polls, adding that he represented the new vision and ideas the Party needed for the next presidential elections.

Mr Ricketts-Hagan, 55, is the Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South and an investment analyst and banker; a former Minister of the Central Region, and Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry under former President John Dramani Mahama, would be competing with the former president on the day of the NDC primaries slated for December 7, 2018.

Mr Ricketts-Hagan said though the Party was in power before the 2016 elections, he was not a cabinet minister to influence policies, and prayed delegates to give him the nod to lead the Party to exert greater influence on policies and programmes.

He appealed to the flagbearer aspirants to run a decent campaign, saying the NDC remained a big family even after the primaries, and would need the support of all to win the 2020 general poll.

Other contestants are Mr Sylvester Mensah, former Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority, Dr Ekwow Spio Garbrah; a former Trade and Industry Minister; Prof. Joshua Alabi, former Vice Chancellor of the University for Professional Studies, and Mr Nurideen Iddrisu, a Banker and Oil and Gas Consultant.

The rest are, Alban Bagbin, Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Stephen Atubiga, member of NDC communications team; Elipklim Agbemava, a lawyer; and David Doste Kwame Kuwadah; a banker and oil and gas consultant.
