The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana says it can't suspend the ongoing voters' registration exercise despite the continous increase in Ghana's Covid-19 case count.
Ghana has so far crossed the 20,000 mark; the country's case count as at Tuesday stands at 21,968 with 4,683 active cases with 129 deaths.
A few Ghanaians have expressed fear in the exercise; especially juxtaposing it to the increasing number of cases and the fact that there is flouting of the COVID-19 protocols at the registration centres.
Others are calling for the suspension of the exercise.
The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has condemned the “wanton disregard for or non-enforcement of Covid-19 preventive measures at any voter registration centre that has the potential to spread the disease” even more,” the EC Chairperson and other members of the commission should be ultimately held responsible and accountable by the State.”
Responding to critics, Dr Bossman Asare, Deputy EC Chairperson in charge Of Cooperate Services told Kwami Sefa Kayi in an interaction on Peace FM's morning show 'Kokrokoo' that: "We can’t suspend the registration exercise despite the COVID . . . all we need to do is to ensure the adherence to the safety protocols . . . as for us we have done everything to ensure the safety of everyone; the individuals must also take some responsibilities".

Looking at the situations something must be done before it is to late .EC must must put in place enforcement. if they can set target of day like hundred the rest of the people should be force to go home .If there can be a way of distributing numbers at the polling stations ,so that those who do not get numbers can go home and can come back the next day .They can also come back in the evening may be 4pm to check if there are chance to register .
AMERICA 3 MILLION CASES 134,500 DEATH, 1 MILLION RECOVERY, 16 MILLION ACTIVE S.AFRICA 215,600 CASES 3,000 DEATH, 102,000 RECOVERY, 100.000 ACTIVE CASES NIGERIA 29,000 CAASES, 669 DEATH, 12,000 RECOVERY, 17,000 ACTIVE CASES GHANA 22,000 CASES, 130 DEATH 17, 800 RECOVERY 4,600 ACTIVE CASES THERE IS A SURGE OF COVID-19 EVERYWHERE WHETHER THERE IS VOTER'S REGISTRATION OR NOT. THE NUMBER IN GHANA WILL STILL GO UP AS LONG AS THERE ARE STILL SOME PEOPLE TO BE INFECTED. THE VIRUS WILL NOT STOP EVEN WHEN WE STOP REGISTRATION
The Ghana Medical Association (GMA should be ashame for them self they should go the market places and see how people are exchanging money and clouded at the place without distances. You go to take money from JDM and you come to air and talk unnecessary then we should'nt vote and aloud the president to continue.
Is it more dangerous to go and register than go to the market? Are our markets more safer than to go and register? People should come with better argument.
So we should continue to die huh....I thank God this pandemic has no respect for the rich.. God is watching you all.
