The former Chief Executive Officer of the defunct Ghana @50 Secretariat and aspiring National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Charles Yves Wereko-Brobbey, is highly optimistic that he will get the nod of delegates to be the next Chairman of the party and his buoyancy is premised largely on the fact he stoutly defended the past government at the Commission of Enquiry set-up to probe the countrys Golden Jubilee celebrations.

Speaking on AdomFM in Kumasi, he said there was no way delegates were going to vote based on speculations that he looted the coffers of the state during the celebrations. According to him, if allegations of impropriety were the basis for which delegates would vote against a particular candidate, then all those aspiring for the chairmanship position had a question to answer.

In response to a question that since he might likely face prosecution for causing financial loss to the state in his capacity as the former Chief Executive of the Ghana@50 Secretariat and thus not function effectively as a National Chairman, Dr. Wereko-Brobbey said if such a thing is in the pipeline then those currently in court should rather be advised to step down."

"ďż˝.Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey is in court for a land he bought and has already lost his first appearance; currently the case is with the Supreme Court, likewise Sammy Crabbe who is also contesting some class action relating to Ghana International Airlines (GIA),ďż˝ he stated.

According to him, Stephen Ntim should also be dragged to court for not occupying any ministerial position in the 8-year-NPP administration.

Perhaps he could be charged with negligence to lobby for a position, he said.

Dr. Wereko-Brobbey posited that all decisions arrived at were done collectively after deliberations, adding that if there was any arrest to be made in respect of the activities of the Secretariat, then the entire National Planning Committee (comprising Cabinet members who makes input before it is sent to Parliament and then to the President) should be dealt with.

If they do not arrest the committee, cabinet, and Kufuor (ex-President), how can they arrest me? he asked.

The NPP will be holding its National Delegates Conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday. Dr. Charles Yves Wereko-Brobbey, former VRA boss, Jake Obetsebi Lamptey, former Tourism Minister, Stephen Ntim, former Vice Chairman, Sammy Crabbe, Greater Accra Regional Chairman and Felix Owusu Agyapong, former Majority Leader of Parliament are all contesting for the chairmanship position.
