Audio Attachment:Listen to Mike Dokosi and Nana Asante Bediatuo in an interview with Citi Fm's Shamima Muslim |
Editor of the Daily Post newspaper, Mike Dokosi, seems unimpressed with the latest evidence being brandished about by lawyers for the NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, which exonerates him from using illicit drugs. He has pooh-poohed the evidence and says he still stands by his earlier allegations that "Nana Akufo-Addo smokes marijuana".
Lawyers for the NPP flagbearer, obviously weary of hearing the constant mantra that Akufo-Addo sniffs cocaine, he smokes wee and was once arrested, have publicly released the evidence to silence critics and to clear doubts in the minds of Ghanaians about their client.
A press release signed by Nana Asante Bediatuo of Ampem Chambers, stated in the strongest possible terms that their client - Nana Akufo-Addo - has never been a marijuana or a cocaine user and or a dealer, and has never been arrested for possessing narcotic drugs. To set the records straight in respect of allegations to the effect that Nana Akufo-Addo was once arrested for possession of narcotic drugs at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City, in the USA, Lawyer Bediatuo pointed to official document from the US authorities (The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey).
Portions of the letter signed by the FOI Administrator, Kathleen P. Bincoletto reads: your letter of February 27, 2008 was received in my office on February 21, 2008. For processing under the Port Authoritys policy on Freedom of Information, copy enclosed. You seek copies of any arrest records related to Nana Akufo Addo for years 2003 through 2008. We have searched our files and found no records responsive to your request."
However, in an interview with Shamima Muslim on CitiFM, Mr. Dokosi dismissed the letter cum trump card being bandied about by Akufo-Addos lawyers, saying that the lawyers of Nana went to the wrong place for the information.
My position still remains the samewe still stand by the two allegations that have been made. The first one was that he (Nana) was the one who was arrested with wee in his possession, and the second being that he smokes wee the first allegation is what they are dealing with leaving the second allegation. The question is, does he smoke marijuana? We are answering that he smokes marijuana which makes him unfit to handle a high position in the country. Certainly we stand by our story that he was the one who was arrested at John F. Kennedy airport. Nana Asante Bediatuo is just trying to throw a fast one on us; he did not go to the right agency to bring out this information..., Mike Dokosi said.
But Nana Asante Bediatuo laughed off Mike Dokosis accusations and dared him to provide even a shred of evidence to back his claims.
Speaking on the same platform, the renowned lawyer said, this is very interestinghe (Mike) does not tell Ghanaians the source of his information and when the facts are presented, he turns round and says we went to the wrong place for the information. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is in total control of the airport. And definitely if someone was arrested, they will have the record. I dont think he understands the way US systems works. He should produce a document from the appropriate agency that indicates that Nana Akufo Addo was arrested. He should publish it instead of asking questions whether Akufo Addo smokes wee or not. He is the one saying Akufo Addo smokes marijuana; he should prove it, Nana Asante Bediatuo said.
He strongly maintained that there is no record anywhere that the NPP flagbearer has ever been busted for narcotics.
