Barring any last minute hitches two brash-talking gentlemen will cross swords for the title of perhaps the most braggadocious Ghanaian political figure ever.
Business mogul and NPP Member of Parliament for Assin Fosu, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong and Director of Communications for the NDC in the Central Region, Bernard Allotey Jacobs, have dared each other in a show of mannish power.
The combatants, who have in the past captured the airwaves with their antics, are really fired up vowing to silence each other for good.
The feud begun when Allotey Jacobs, emphatically called for the expulsion of Hon. Kennedy Agyapong from parliament.
The Assin North MP had warned that the country could return to military rule if politicians, especially those in the ruling NDC and the opposition NPP, do not stop deceiving the masses.
If we are not too careful, there will be a second Rawlings in this country because what we, the politicians, tell the people before we come to power is different from what we do when we get the opportunity to govern the people, Ken Agyapong is quoted by the Al-Hajj newspaper to have told some 29 youth he sponsored to acquire computer education.
Ex-President Jerry John Rawlings in 1979 overthrew the administration of General Acheampong and repeated the same action in 1981 by overthrowing the late Dr Hilla Limanns government, with the explanation that the political atmosphere at the time of the coup was not conducive for the ordinary Ghanaian.
Perhaps, it was based on this that the outspoken NPP MP posited that Ghanaians might embark on a mutiny against unbridled corruption and deceptions by politicians.
But contributing to a panel discussion on AdomFMs Dwaso Nsem show, the NDCs Central Regional Communications Director felt that the Assin North MP was inciting the youth to war and opined that Parliament should be bold enough to expel MPs who pass comments like another coup dtat is imminent and a second Rawlings in the making.
When an MP says such a thing, he should be sacked from parliament and in parliament, he should face the Privileges Committee, he should be sanctioned as an honorable MP. It is most unfortunate that we have an MP, an honorable Member of Parliament, calling for a coup dtatAs a Member of Parliament who has sworn to defend the Constitution, such irresponsible statements should not come from him; for a Parliamentarian to say such a thing, he should be sacked from Parliament, he said.
He warned the NPP MP not to relate the on-going riots by some youth in the UK to Ghana and pontificate as if such atrocities are on the verge of occurring in the country. Taking a direct swipe at the Assin North MP, he charged that this (NDC) government would not countenance that kind of riots if he thinks he can incite the youth to do what they like.
But a stunned Kennedy Agyapong, who called into the programme for a rebuttal, said it is difficult for him to comprehend how Allotey Jacobs who once told him at a chance meeting in Parliament that he (Allotey) holds him (Agyapong) in high esteem could call for his expulsion from Parliament.
However, Mr. Jacobs quickly interjected by labeling the NPP MP a liar.
...don't lie...I never knew who you were. It was Cletus Avoka who pointed you out to meand we embraced ourselves. You even said you thought I was an old man and not that quite youngI never said I admire you and even if I did say that, you happen to be a Member of Parliament and you hail from the Central Region so what is wrong with that? he asked.
The remark, it was quite obvious, did not go down well with the CEO of Kencity Media who sharply retorted, Allotey Jacobs dont be foolish with sensitive matters.
I want to tell you that I am not scared of those tacticsturning sensible and sensitive matters into drama. I am ready for youeven National Security has commended me for putting out that informationStop behaving like thatand if you dare me now, I will move over there and deal with youIm at an important meeting at the Golden Tulip Hotel, but if you wish I can meet you right there, he said.
He added that he gave the admonishing based on recent events on the political terrain having in mind the gradual but dreadful creeping of the culture of insults into the body politic of Ghana, warning that he will not sit idly by for politics of insults to destroy the nation. Quite interestingly, the NPP MP fell short of his own wise presage when he launched a verbal tirade at the NDCs Central Regional Communications Director calling him a greedy person.
You Allotey, because of your greedinessyou fought with Ama Benyiwaa Doe (Central Regional Minister) over a contract. We know youwith your Nigerian background so please dont destroy Ghana and go back to your nationYou think you are tough and man enough, eh? You are chickenand if you dare try me you will smell pepper...pauper like you. Lazarus pauper, you had nothing to eat and today youre being spoon-fed Jack! I can face you anywheregive directions to where you are and I will come and face-off with youand believe you will forget that the NDC is in power. Poor man like you! Did you even have food to feed on? I want to restrain myselfbut if you push meyou will be shocked.
Stung by the NPP MPs invectives, Allotey Jacobs accepted the challenge saying he was prepared for him anytime.
A highly charged Kennedy Agyapong then suggested that they square off at Adom FM, where Allotey Jacobs was a guest on the stations morning show, to which the NDC Communications Director for the Central Region replied come over and lets face each otherIm eagerly waiting for youand if you fail to make it today, Im prepared to meet you at your own station, OmanFM, anytime any day, he said.
As at the time of filing this report, though, the two gentlemen had still not settled their personal scores and it is unclear if after sober reflection they have had a change of mind.
