A director of estate developers, Regimanuel Gray Limited, Regina Botwe, has denied reports that the company built a house as a gift for President Mills.
The property, located near President Millsďż˝ private residence at Spintex in Accra, has generated controversy following media reports that the president is putting up a mansion, which later reports suggested it was a gift for the president from Regimanuel.
But Regina Botwe explains the structure - a three-bedroom residential quarters still under construction - is for the presidents security detail, insisting that we have never given anything as a gift to the president. She told Joy News Sammy Darko that the security guards for the past two years have been living under tents on an open park with a mobile toilet. The structures, she said, caused a lot of inconveniences for residents there who complained about the hazard the makeshift structures pose to them.
She said management of the estates realised the situation was an eyesore and decided to put a fence wall around it.
Regina Botwe said President Mills later wrote to the company requesting that they provide him something for his guards to rent, So the arrangement is going to be a rentalin fact it is for Regimanuel.
She added: And so since April we have been going up and down; then our estate management company here sat down and decided to put a quarters which can serve as boys quarters, should we decide to develop the place itself.
Sounding very livid with the already running controversy over the property, Regina Botwe said she was surprised people are spending time on the subject when there are so many important things to talk about in this country.
She said the company will not contract loans, pay interest and then be building houses and dash them.
