Dr. Sekou Nkrumah, son of Ghana’s first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah has once again attacked the ruling NDC government, saying the performance of the Mills led administration does not merit a second term in office.
The outspoken politician who recently resigned from the National Democratic Congress, a day after his sister was elected Chairperson of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) stated that judging by what he described as the abysmal performance of the NDC and the incompetence of its leader, clearly the NDC must not be given a second term by Ghanaians.
“I think the Mills administration has not done enough to deserve a second term. I think that some of us have tried to raise the flag but it looks like it fell on deaf ears and the congress showed that the majority of the NDC represented by the delegates confirmed Professor Mills to lead the NDC for 2012 and they were not thinking on any alternative”.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Thursday September 22, Dr. Sekou Nkrumah stated that he would however prefer an incompetent NDC administration to an NPP government.
Dr. Sekou Nkrumah who has been an ardent critic of President Mills also explained that he stormed out of the memorial service in honour of his father at the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum because he felt slighted by the ‘political vindictiveness’ on display.
According to Sekou, after a rather late invitation to Wednesday morning’s event, he arrived to realize that the usual seating arrangement with his elder siblings on the podium had been changed to a ‘corner because someone felt he did not deserve to be on the podium this time round’.
The move angered Sekou Nkrumah who decided to boycott the program and watch on TV at home with his wife.
The government has since apologized to Dr Nkrumah saying it was not the government’s intention to use the occasion to frustrate him.
But the third son of Ghana’s first President has urged some individuals within the NDC administration to move away from the “pettiness”.
He said members of the government who feel uncomfortable with his criticisms of President Mills’ leadership style must mature from such vindictiveness which has the tendency to destroy the party.
