In spite of the fact that an Accra High Court granted embattled NDC bankroller, Alfred Agbesi Woyome bail, the man whose name seems to resonate countrywide will spend one more night in police custody.

On Monday, the High Court hearing his case granted him bail to the tune of Gh˘54 million with two sureties to be justified, but despite his lawyers successfully raising Gh˘87 million, which is Gh˘33million more than the required bail bond, they were unproductive in getting the Lands Commission to complete valuation of the property in time for Mr. Woyome’s release.

The lawyers say they look forward to the Lands Commission assessing the landed property and presenting a report to the Police Criminal Investigations Department tomorrow that could lead to his release from custody.

Speaking on the Citi FM's Eye Witness News with Shamima Muslim, a Special Assistant to the beleaguered NDC guru, Kwame Tawiah who confirmed the latest set-back in getting his boss out of the police cooler, asserted that Mr. Woyome has enough properties to secure his bail.

“All is not yet over but we’ve managed to get bail and I can assure you that we have properties worth more than the bail given so tomorrow we will go and pay for his bail. Mr. Woyome is still in custody…We have been beaten by time. God willing first thing tomorrow [Tuesday] we’ll finish with everything and secure his release…And once it has been granted we believe we will prepare very well for the challenge ahead…,” he said.

Mr. Woyome has been charged with defrauding the state and conspiring to commit crime in the controversial GHC51 million judgment debt paid him. He was granted bail in the sum of GH˘54Million with a surety to be justified after a good word put in by his defense team on Monday and is required to report to the Police CID headquarters twice a week.

The alleged bankroller of the ruling NDC had been in police custody since his arrest on the February 3. He was refused bail last Monday when he appeared in court.

Two others, the Chief State Attorney of Ghana, Samuel Nerquaye-Tetteh and Mr. Paul Asimenu, a Director at the Legal Department of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, who were also remanded into custody, have been granted bail in the sum of GhC6,000 with two sureties and are also expected to report twice a week to the police.

The case has been adjourned to February 20.
