Ghana and Togo yesterday, renewed the bond of friendship between them and pledged to work closely for the benefit of their people.

The leaders of the two countries also pledged to further strengthen their collaboration in the areas of agriculture, education, human resource development, good neighbourliness and security.

President John Evans Atta Mills and his Togolese counter-pert, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbe, made the pledge during bilateral talks in Lome when President Mills led a Ghana government delegation on a days working visit to Togo.

The delegation included the Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, Mr. E.T. Mensah; the Deputy Minister of the Interior, Mr. Kobby Achemapong; the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Chris Kpodo, and a Deputy Minister of Energy, Mr. Inusah Fuseini.

Spontaneous cheers greeted President Mills when the presidential jet carrying him and his entourage touched down at the Gnassingbe Eyadema International Airport in Lome at 9:30 am.

The enthusiastic crowed waved miniature Ghana flags as the host, President Eyadema, introduced President Mills to Togolese government officials.

Although the meeting between the two Presidents was held behind closed doors, it was believed to have centred on relations between Ghana and Togo.

Addressing the Ghanaian community in Lome later, President Mills told them that he was impressed about the relations between the two countries, adding, I will ensure that the relations are raised to a high pedestal so long as I remain President of Ghana.

He said Ghana and Togo had one thing in common, that the circumstances were the same and stressed the need for the two countries to collaborate with each other.

This is the world of interaction. This is a time for a common purpose, President Mills added.
