Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says the NDC governments failure to fulfil its campaign promises to the people of the Zebilla constituency in the Upper East region is as a result of the non-commitment of Cletus Avoka, Majority Leader in Parliament, to the development and welfare of his constituents.
According to Nana Addo, the Member of Parliament for Zebilla, Cletus Avoka, was a senior member of the Professor Mills-led government and could have used his position to attract development projects and poverty alleviation ventures to the area for the comfort of the people.
In 2008, President Mills, on a campaign platform at Zebilla, promised that he was going to develop the agricultural sector of the country including agriculture in Zebilla, where his government was going to improve on some dams to be used for irrigation purposes, and also ensure that women who picked shea nuts were provided with gloves, wellington boots and donkey carts for the transportation of their farm produce to the home and market.
The party has been in power for four years and these simple things have not been given to the women.
Against this background, Nana Akufo-Addo introduced the New Patriotic Party parliamentary candidate for Zebilla, Frank Fuseini, to the various gatherings he addressed on the third day of his listening tour of some constituencies in the Upper East region, saying, You all know the good works he has been doing for the poor and deprived people in his private life, so you people are in the best position to imagine the quantum of development projects he will be able to attract to Zebilla as a Member of Parliament.
In his view, the NDC had failed the people of Zebilla and Ghanaians by failing to fulfil its promises.
Many Ghanaians had their hopes so high after listening to the
promises and voted for Professor Atta Mills to be the President of Ghana. Its close to four years and the promises he made and expected to be fulfilled in four years have not been fulfilled. They promised to put money in our pockets; we have not seen any money in our pocket, rather we have got holes in our pockets. They promised that Ghanaians will only be making one-time contribution to the National Health Insurance Scheme; its almost four years that promise has not been fulfilled. NDC came to power on lies and propaganda, saying promises they do not have answers to and that is why they cannot fulfil them.
Earlier, Nana Addo and his entourage paid a courtesy call on the Tilli Naba and his elders at his palace, where he introduced Frank Fuseini and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to them and called for their support come December 2012.
The team went to Binaba, also under the Zebilla constituency, where the people said they had been denied a lot of social amenities under this government, and were prepared to throw their weight behind the NPP so that they could also get their share of the national cake.
They said they were promised a dam during the campaign and even when the NDC government took over power, noting that after close to four years, nothing had been done on the allocated parcel of land.
Nana Akufo-Addo was happy with the level of commitment among party functionaries and the unity that existed among them and called on all others who were harbouring bad feelings to abandon them for the sake of the victory of the party.
