The name Akua Donkor has since 2012 been a household brand so far as Ghana's politics is concerned.

Akua Donkor, Founder and Leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), has attended several State events but her presence at the just-ended National Economic Forum at Senchi near Akosombo in the Eastern Region has raised eyebrows questioning her mission.

In an interview with Peace FM, she indicated that she participated in the forum in order to offer expert opinions to revive the economy.

However, a member of the Communications Team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP); Yaw Adomako Baafi, has expressed disappointment in the current administration for inviting the GFP leader to such a "serious" forum.

Mr. Yaw Adomako Baafi, speaking on Oman FM, posited that Akua Donkor only went to Senchi to luxuriate in the plush facilities of the Royal Senchi Hotel and sample the food which was served at the place. To him, she failed to share any idea that will help develop the nation.

Contributing to a panel discussion programme on the Madina-based radio station, Adomako Baafi said he was not surprised the GFP was at the function, saying Akua Donkor pretends not to be sympathetic towards the government but in reality, she is pro-NDC; a "typical member of the ruling party."

“She is a devout member of the NDC. From the time of PNDC, (Ex-President) Rawlings jailed her for seven years for fraud. She’s very smart. Under PNDC, Akua Donkor was incarcerated for seven years...But prior to 2012 general elections, she contested for the position of a District Chief Executive for Kwabre West on the ticket of the NDC."
