Ashanti NDC Kicks Against Calls For Removal

The Ashanti regional executive of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has described the faceless rivals calling for their removal from office for alleged corruption as cowards and agents planted to derail the progress of the party in the region.

Over the past weeks, the rival group has been rallying support for foot soldiers to kick out, in particular, the Chairman, Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, for alleged neglect and corruption.

But the Regional Organiser of the party, Alhaji Sannie Abdulai, told the Daily Graphic in a reaction that the allegations were false, malicious and intended to scuttle the progress made by the party in the region.

He said none of the allegations made had been proven “and at the right time, we shall take them on”.

“We are aware of the people behind those calling for our removal, simply because national and regional elections are around the corner,” he said, as he challenged the “detractors” to prove their case.

The regional branch of the party awaits a directive from the national executive to elect officers to man activities in the region and rally support for the 2016 elections.

The current executive is part of Ambassador Ohene Agyekum’s team in 2007 which helped to restructure the party after it went to its lowest ebb after the 2000 elections, which was won by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Under the executive, the party has made a steady progress, increasing the votes in a region considered as the stronghold of the NPP.

For instance, from a disappointing 18 per cent of the total vote cast in 2000, the party increased its votes to 26 per cent in 2008 under Professor John Evans Atta Mills and 28.9 per cent in the last election, which was won by President John Dramani Mahama.
