The former Upper West Regional Minister, Bede Ziedeng has clarified he has no supporters and loyalists doing his bidding in the region.
“I wouldn’t say that I have loyalists in the Upper West Region. In the region, we have members of the NDC [National Democratic Congress], supporters of the NDC and executives of the NDC and so I don’t have any group that will say that they are loyal to me,” he explained.
Some NDC supporters on Thursday destroyed properties belonging to the party and defaced the party’s regional office with graffiti to register their displeasure with the President over his decision to remove Mr. Ziedeng from office as Regional Minister.
They were of the opinion that the President should have consulted them before replacing Mr. Ziedeng because they [NDC youth] voted for President John Mahama to become President.
The former Regional Minister on Eyewitness News condemned the protests of the regional branch of the NDC over his removal as Regional Minister.
He was convinced that there are other avenues through which they could have channeled their grievances through to the President.
Mr. Ziedeng dismissed media reports that the party supporters vandalized party property because according to him, upon visiting the affected offices, it was realized no major destruction was made.
He however maintained that “that was still not the approved method of expressing one’s views on an important issue such as a reshuffle which has been carried out by the President.”
He cautioned all party members across the country to exercise restraint and give room to the President to operate because he knows best.
“It lies within the power of the President to make a reshuffle and for that matter; to change positions…I believe that he has very good reasons why he is doing what he is doing,” he said.
President Mahama in his recent Ministerial reshuffle replaced Mr. Ziedeng; with Alhaji Amin Amidu Sulemani; former Minister of Roads and Highways.
