MADAM ESTHER Boateng aka Eno Adwoa Pokua, a 65-year-old chop bar operator, has declared her intention to contest the upcoming municipal assembly election for the Nkwakaw Central Electoral Area in the Kwahu West municipality of the Eastern Region.
Declaring her intention during a press conference at Nkawkaw on Thursday, Eno Adwoa noted that the incumbent, Agyei Boadi, after winning the election left for overseas and had not yet returned. She said the youth had mounted pressure on her to contest the race with other two aspirants.
The chop operator, who was an assembly member from 2006 to 2010 during President Kufuors administration, stated that due to the numerous development projects she initiated for the area, the youth and the opinion leaders had appealed to her to contest the race for the second time.
Madam Esther Boateng told the media that during her period as the assembly woman, she was able to acquire street bulbs, build public urinals, toilets, among others, for the area, adding that due to the massive support she had from the electorate when she won the race, she would contest for the position again, fully convinced that she would have an urge over the other contestants.
She stressed that Being old does not mean you cant do anything for your country, pointing out that the old people rather have a lot of ideas for development and a compassion for the poor.
In all, 76 candidates comprising 71 males and five females have filed their nominations to contest in the 26 electoral areas in the Kwahu Municipal Assembly.
Also 181 candidates, comprising 151 males and 30 females, have filed their nominations to contest the unit committee elections.
