The power-play in the wobbling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is taking an ugly twist as information filtering into the office of The aL-hAJJ indicates that the Nana Akufo-Addo faction has intensified plots to get rid of some bigwigs of the party suspected to be working against his ambition of becoming president.

The doubtful NPP 2016 presidential candidate according to our source is very uncomfortable with the leadership of the Minority in Parliament led by its leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu and his deputy, Dominic Nitiwul and is alleged to have instructed his linchpins to push for the ousting of the duo, citing lack of performance and bite in the political struggle against the Mahama administration.

Also to be uprooted for “indifferent” attitude towards Akufo-Addo’s third time attempt at the presidency are the National Chairman, Paul Afoko and General Secretary, Kwabena Adjei Agyapong.

While many thought plots to remove the anti-Akufo elements from various leadership positions had subsided, a new wave of insurrection is being led by aficionados of Nana Akufo-Addo to provide oxygen to moves, first started by Gabby Asare Otchere Darkoh and picked up by self-acclaimed NPP financier, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

Resurrecting a crusade launched last year by Nana Akufo-Addo’s cousin cum NPP chief spin doctor, Gabby Asare Otchere Darkoh; a supposed Accra-based legal practitioner, Nana Adjei Baffuor Awuah, accused the minority leadership especially, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu of doing little to tackle the Mahama-led NDC government.

Lawyer Baffour Awuah, whom it is alleged is among a coterie of political hangers-on of the 2016 flag bearer of the NPP, chastised Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu for lacking the needed leadership skills to champion the cause of Ghanaians in Parliament as an opposition leader.

Decision to replace leadership of the minority in Parliament, the National Chairman and General Secretary, The aL-hAJJ gathered, was as a result of Nana Akufo-Addo and his men’s belief that they have been compromised by the ruling NDC government.

Reports are that in order to cater for the void being created as a result of the minority’s lackluster attitude in checkmating the NDC government, pressure group, “OccupyGhana” was formed to augment the hatchet job by Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG), IMANi and other NPP inclined civil society groups.

Sources say Nana Akufo Addo and those scheming to get the perceived anti-Akufo elements impeached are enraged over what they believed to be their “unbending and well-rehearsed strategy to throw spanner into the NPP’s presidential candidate’s third time bid.

Nana Akufo Addo’s cousin and party stalwart, Gabby Asare Otchere Darko, was the first to accuse the Minority in Parliament of abdicating its responsibilities to civil society organizations.

On his part, and in his usual brush and bragging stance, Akufo Addo’s confidant and financier, who is also the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyepong, some days later on Asempa Fm stated “Anytime you see Alan’s group contributing to the party, it’s just to destroy the party, but we will not give them chance, why! Kwabena can’t do “FOKO”; Paul Afoko can’t do s**! We are not afraid of anybody; let them try.”

He added that “I’m tired, I’m sick of Kwabena Agyapong. I can’t defend him again, I will use the same way I campaigned for him to kick him out. I don’t know where he gets his influence from; he has goofed this time, he stressed, adding, I’m so disappointed in Kwabena, he is a very smart gentleman but I don’t know what has come over him. He is finished, I swear to you. If he continues like this, he will not last even six months in office.”

However, in their usual resoluteness, Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong in spite of the accusations have sworn to resist any attempt to cut their tenure in office prematurely, insisting “unless the mindless fellows involved in this dangerous and sinister move want a return to 1979…, that is to break-up the party even before the 2016 elections.”

On their part, the Minority leader, Kyei Mensah Bonsu and his deputy, Nitiwul expressed shock and anger at the call by lawyer Baffuor Awuah

“It is not for him [Baffuor Awuah] to say I should be changed, it is for my colleagues and party to decide,” Kyei Mensah-Bonsu warned.

Stressing, “If Baffuor Awuah is not happy with my work that is his business because a lot of people also appreciate my work.”

Deputy Minority Leader, Dominic Nitiwul called the bluff of the legal practitioner. He described his 'unwanted suggestion' as a ploy to divert attention from the incompetent Mahama-led administration.

“Is the Minority leader the president? What has he done? I think this is an agenda setting,” he stated.
