The Methodist Bishop of Obuasi Diocese, Rt Rev Stephen Bosomtwe-Ayensu, has criticised President John Mahama’s ‘yen tie obiaa’ comment, describing it as offensive and misplaced.
According to the man of God, even though the President could choose not to listen to members of his party and those in opposition, he is obliged to give a listening ear to the cry of the masses whose mandate he is using to govern.
Speaking in an interview with Daily Guide, the maverick Christian leader said the President’s ‘yen tie obiaa’ statement was dangerous and a recipe for disaster, indicating that it would send wrong signals to the working class to rise against the government.
“The President can agree to disagree about what people think of his administration’s record in dealing with economic hardship, but to say you won’t listen to anyone and begin to tease Ghanaians with ‘yen tie obiaa’ song is a serious denigration and distortion of the term,” the Methodist Bishop stated.
Rev Bosomtwe-Ayensu continued: “We need to get serious with governance this year and stop teasing our critics with this ‘yen tie obiaa’ song. 2015 must be an action year.”
He condemned attempts by officials of the ruling government to belittle criticisms from opponents of the government, while stating that opposition was needed in all spheres of life to bring about progress and qualitative change.
The minister of the gospel called on the apparatchiks of the present administration to stop dabbling in cacophonic propaganda to the anguish of Ghanaians.
