The Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugre Naabu has stated that the party is poised to overturn the dominance of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the four constituencies in the Tamale metropolitan area.
Mr. Bugre Naabu observed that Tamale North, Tamale Central, Tamale South and the Sagnarigu constituencies’ played a major role in the 2012 elections where the NPP lost to the NDC.
According to him, the NPP lost to the NDC with a margin of about 180,000 votes nationwide with over 95,000 out of the total of the votes from the four constituencies within the Tamale Metropolitan area.
Speaking at a consultative meeting with leadership of over 60 identifiable youth groups in the Tamale South constituency, the outspoken NPP chairman encouraged the youth groups to work tirelessly to reverse the dominance of the NDC in those constituencies.
Mr. Bugre Naabu says the party will no longer tolerate the intimidations and victimizations from the NDC saying “we are ready for them”. We always want to play the gentleman politics but the NDC seems to be counting on that to intimidate our members and sometimes prevent them from voting” he added.
The meeting held under the auspices of the regional youth wing of the party, is part of the party’s efforts in the Northern region to strategize to ensure an effective monitoring of the upcoming limited voter registration and ensure a unified front within the constituency.
The Northern Regional Youth Organizer of the Party, Alhaji Rashi COP psyche the leadership of the youth groups to be vigilant, focus and shun complacency in the discharge of their duties. He said the victory of the party solely lies on their hands and they must do all possible to ensure NPP wins the 2016 general elections.
He encouraged them to break the ranks of the NDC by persuading the disgruntled members of the party to join the NPP.
Alhaji Rashid urged them to engage in politics devoid of insults and personal attacks since this year’s elections are issues based and Ghanaians are quite aware of the current economic situation inflicted on them. He said posterity will judge all of them if they failed to ensure effective monitoring to bring the NPP back to power.
