Intemperate Language Must Be Shunned — Julius Debrah

The Chief of Staff, Mr Julius Debrah, has expressed concern about intemperate language in the country’s political discourse.

He said provocative utterances which were made by some of the political parties’ serial callers and commentators on radio and television stations were unfortunate.

According to Mr Debrah, such utterances and insults, if not checked, would bring disaffection and intolerance.

He, therefore, called on the political party leaders to advise their members who go on air and on television to be circumspect and refrain from such negative acts.
Mr Debrah stated this in a speech read on his behalf by the outgoing Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Peter Anarfi Mensah, at the coronation of the new Chief of Ejura who is also the Adontenhene of the Asante-Mampong Traditional Area, Barima Osei-Hwidie.

Dignitaries

The durbar of chiefs and people was graced by Her Royal Highness Princess Tsandzisiwe from Swaziland, who was the Special Guest of Honour. She was accompanied by a three-member delegation.

The Vice-President, Mr Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, who was the Guest of Honour, was represented by his secretary, Mrs Evelyn Agyemfra, who led a three-member delegation to the function.

Also at the ceremony was Mrs Hajia Ramatu Mahama, the widow of  Alhaji Aliu Mahama, the Vice-President during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) regime from 2001-2009.

The NPP delegation consisted of the acting National Chairman, Mr Freddie  Blay, Mr Francis Addai-Nimoh, Member of Parliament (MP) for Mampong Constituency, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, Ashanti Regional Chairman, Mampong Constituency Chairman, Thomas Appiah-Kubi, and the Ejura-Sekyedumasi Constituency Chairman, Mr Abagnena.

Prevailing peace

Mr Debrah reminded the people of the peace prevailing in the country and urged them to work hard to consolidate it.

He commended Barima Osei-Hwidie for his elevation and assured him of the government’s preparedness to support him to bring peace, unity and progress to the people.

Mr Debrah advised the people to rally behind Barima Osei-Hwidie and his elders to bring rapid development growth to the area.

Barima Osei-Hwidie (known in private life as Mr Enoch Osei-Mensah and is the principal Protocol Officer of the State Protocol Department), who succeeded his grandfather, Nana Kwaku Sarfo Ababio, who reigned for 54 years), thanked the people of Ejura for their cooperation.

He pledged to work in close collaboration with other stakeholders in education to revamp the standard of education in the area.

Bedrock of development

He noted that education was the bedrock of every development and was of the belief that when the children were provided with the right type of training, guidance and knowledge, they could become responsible citizens.

Barima Osei-Hwidie, however, cautioned children below 18 years who were fond of going to drinking bars and also roaming the streets between the hours of 9p.m.  and 10p.m. to stop that habit.

He, therefore, called on the security agencies to arrest such deviants.

Nana Ejurahene also promised to raise money to put up permanent residents for the Ghana Fire Service Department at Ejura to enhance effective work.

On Fulani herdsmen who have besieged the area, Barima Osei Hwidie advised the people not to take the law into their own  hands by attacking them.

He assured them that he was in touch with security personnel who had promised to help resolve the problem.
