Director of Elections for Convention People’s Party (CPP), James Kwabena Bonfeh says the Electoral Commission (EC) should not abuse its constitutional independence to do things which undermine the common interest of Ghanaians.
According to him, the Electoral Commission’s (EC’s) especially the boss, Madam Charlotte Osei’s rush to launch its new logo and 5 year strategic plan in an election and registration year was needless.
Speaking on OKAY FM’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Kabila as he is affectionately called expressed dissatisfaction with the sensitisation on the limited registration exercise which has started as many Ghanaians are still not conversant with the detailing information binding the registration exercise.
Going over the details in the ongoing limited registration exercise, Kabila cautioned the general public that the exercise is for Ghanaians who have turned 18 years and those who could not register in the last registration.
He added that the polling agents representing their political parties should restrict themselves to the rules by filling the Challenge Forms if they have any reason to suspect that some of the people are not Ghanaians and their ages are questionable without resulting to a fight.
He however warned that prison terms await anybody who engages in multiple registrations as the de-duplication exercise after this limited registration will expose all those who have registered more than once.
Kabila concluded that the Electoral Commission (EC) has lost its priorities by focusing on the logo and a 5 year strategic plan launch in an election and registration year.
“This education should have been the top priority of EC; they should have taken this limited registration serious and not logo and 5 year strategic plan launch in an election year. Charlotte Osei’s mandate as EC boss is already registered under the Constitution and so I don’t see the essence of her rush to do this logo and 5 year strategic plan launch at this crucial election year. EC should not attempt to abuse its independence,” he admonished.
