DAILY GUIDE has learned that the Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Northern Region, Joseph Amuzu, has resigned to contest as an independent parliamentary candidate come December 7, in the Saboba Constituency.
Some youth groups in the constituency allegedly mobilized funds to purchase parliamentary nomination forms on behalf of the former chairman to enable him join the parliamentary race as an independent candidate.
Information available indicates that Joseph Amuzu, who felt he was not treated fairly in the last primary when he was disqualified by the party, had decided to go independent.
The former chairman accused the incumbent Member of Parliament for Saboba, Joseph Ninkpe, of masterminding his disqualification.
The Northern Regional Secretary of the NDC, Lawyer Rauf, who confirmed the resignation of the vice chairman toDAILY GUIDE, said under the rules and regulations of the party, the moment someone decides to go independent, that person automatically seizes to be a party member.
“As I speak now Mr. Amuzu is no longer the Northern Regional Vice Chairman of the NDC party,” he said.
According to him, the former chairman was disqualified on merit because he was found taking double salary.
He cautioned supporters of the party in the constituency to disregard any independent candidate who campaigns in the name of the party and see them as traitors who have made up their minds to divide the votes of the party.
