Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority, Sylvester Mensah has clarified that he is not behind the circulation of his porsters announcing him as the preferred choice of presidential candidate for the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for 2020.
Posters of the former La-Dadekotopon MP which bear his photo and has the inscription “Sylvester Mensah, our hope for years to come.”popped up over the weekend.
It also describes the former National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) CEO as “our choice for president 2020.”
But in a press statement, Mr Sylvester Mensah said the focus of the NDC for the moment should be focused on understanding why the party lost the 2016 general elections and how the party would be rebuilt, strengthen the grassroots and restoring hope and confidence in membership.
It added “I advise party members, the media and the general public to ignore the poster/resume and remain steadfast and united for the task ahead in the coming years.”
Mr Sylvester Mensah has been widely rumoured to have a presidential ambition of leading the NDC in the future with some political watchers predicting he’s likely to contest the party’s presidential primary ahead of the 2020 general elections.
Others are of the view that Mr Mensah’s political opponents within the opposition NDC party were behind his arrest and detention by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) for alleged financial malfeasance during his tenure at the NHIS.
That action is believed to have been done deliberately to dent his image and question his intergrity and further make things difficult for him to pursue his presidential ambition.

For me the best candidate for the NDC is oko vanderpuyej. We need tough characters similar to what JJ Rawlings has and I see that character of touchiness in the former mayor of Accra. Ghanaians are a bit stubborn & indiscipline so only tough characters like that of jerry, kuffour, akuffu addo and vanderpuye have it. Ghana do not need gentlemen with the mahamalike character to govern it.
For President where? Who's going to give the NDC opportunity to rule? He should simply forget it,Ghanaians are serious with serious minds and not that wicked party with wicked guys.amanmuo bonefoo
The time will be right in 2020 to come and spend your looted booty from the NHIS to fight for the presidency, you lie bad.
