Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, has found himself in an uncomfortable zone following a damning bribery allegation he made on Radio Gold last week.
He has come under a barrage of reasonable attack from his colleagues in Parliament to produce evidence of the bribery allegation he has made against minister designate for Energy, Boakye Agyarko.
Alliance For Accountable Governance (AFAG), dreads the path taken by the Bawku Central MP to tarnish the image of Boakye Agyarko, is a major indictment on the House if left unpunished.
The group is calling on the august house to punish Mahama Ayariga for the falsehood he cooked up after Boakye Agyarko had been vetted.
In a statement sent to Peacefmonline.com, the group furiously noted that- “AFAG holds the opinion that Parliament must not take this matter lightly since it is a stain on the entire house. This is a major indictment on every parliamentarian.
It is only prudent that the leadership of the august house must immediately investigate this matter to the latter.
We are also of the opinion that if Mr. Ayariga is found blameworthy, he must be punished by the house. It is the high time people with the title ‘honorable’ start behaving honorably.”
Full statement below…
Parliament Must Punish Mahama Ayariga For Bribery Fib
Our Constitution guarantees the freedom of speech to every Ghanaian. It is rich that both local and international laws guarantee the right of every individual to say what they feel and share their opinion on matters at any time.
The freedom of speech and expression as spelled out in Article 21(1) (a) of the the1992 constitution, as well as Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), is a fundamental human right that is to be enjoyed by all persons.
However, an abuse of this freedom by one individual could threaten the very life of another individual. One of such persons abusing their right to freedom of speech and expression is the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Hon. Mahama Ayariga.
Alliance For Accountable Governance (AFAG) is gutted at the blatant lies and excessive use of propaganda by some supposed honorable members of Parliament. The habit of mudslinging and slandering of people with decent credibility by some Ghanaian politicians must be condemned unequivocally.
The claim of bribery by Hon. Mahama Ayariga against minister designate for Energy, Boakye Agyarko is very unfortunate. The allegation of receiving Gh3,000 from the minority Chief Whip, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak as money supposedly coming from Boakye Agyarko to entice the minority to approve his [Mr. Agyarko] nomination has turned out to have never happened.
Mahama Ayariga’s claim was also negated by his superiors on the Appointments Committee of Parliament. AFAG is, however, of the view that the public denial of this event by the Chairman of the Committee Joe Osei-Owusu and the minority Chief Whip clearly showed that Mr. Ayariga cooked up this story to damage the reputation and integrity of Mr. Boakye Agyarko, Hon. Muntaka Mubarak, Hon. Joe Osei-Owusu and by extension, the Minority Leader, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu.
AFAG believes that for a member of the highest echelon of the Ghanaian society to throw out such baseless accusation without any concrete evidence is reckless and ill-fated. This drama of allegations and denials by the NDC members of parliament is a major indictment on the house of parliament.
AFAG holds the opinion that Parliament must not take this matter lightly since it is a stain on the entire house.
This is a major indictment on every parliamentarian. It is only prudent that the leadership of the august house must immediately investigate this matter to the latter.
We are also of the opinion that if Mr. Ayariga is found blameworthy, he must be punished by the house. It is the high time people with the title ‘honorable’ start behaving honorably.
AFAG also support the move by the Chairman of the Committee to go to the court to prove his innocence and have his name cleared from this accusation. We also encourage Mr. Boakye Agyarko and Hon. Muntaka Mubarak to take a similar step to bring this matter to an end.

I think we should give Mahama Ayariga a chance. He has not withdrawn his allegation of bribery so i would have expected AFAG should rather support him instead of calling for him to be use as an escape goat. To be that is double standard for an institution which claim to be fighting or looking for accountable governance, what investigation have AFAG done to reach their conclusion a that Ayariga was lying?
I DON'T SEE ANY INTEGRITY IN HIM.AND I WONDER WHY SOME GHANAIANS STILL BELIEVE IN HIM. MY REASONS ARE:1. PREZ KUFOUR'S TRACTORS MEANT FOR NORTHERN FARMS WERE STOLEN AND SHARED AMONG HIM AND HIS FELLOW NORTHERN N D C MPS. HE ALONE GOT 4 IN 2009 . 2 THE FIRST MINISTER TO HAVE BUILT. 3 CLASSROOM BLOCK FOR GHC250,000.00 beyond the Getfund ceiling of GHC150,000.00 FOR 6 CLASSROOM block. SOME Getfund officers challenged him and he eventually got them sack.3. The $33m atlas deal.4.He could not account for the moneys spent at CAN 2013 WHEN confronted by the media he only insulted them. MEANWHILE soon after ,he bought a division 1 football team.Me i cannot trust him
This statement from AFAG is totally unnecessary and prejudicial. A committee has been appointed to investigate the matter. Why can't we all wait for the findings of the committee?
AFAG or what ever you call yourself. how can you claim you a neutral pressure group when you are one sided. you have prejudice the issue already. So what should then happen to Agyarko if it is true that he gave money to the MPs.
WHAT MAKES YOU PEOPLE THINK THAT THE BRIBERY ALLEGATION IS NOT TRUE. LET ALLOW INVESTIGATIONS TO TAKE PLACE AND AT THE END OF IT ALL WE GHANAIANS WOULD SEE WHO'S SAYING THE TRUTH OR OTHERWISE
OPEN LETTER TO ALL GHANA PEOPLE, BREAKING NEWS, WELL AM BEGINNING TO SEE THAT N,D,C PARTY WILL SOON COLLAPSE FOR EVER, NOW SEE ayeriga is planing to destroy ayeako, ayeriga said mutaka told him or know something about the bribe issue, mutaka said he knows nothing, u see the hypocrisy of n,d,c , that is where the case should have died and charge AYERIGA FOR DEFAMATION, ayeriga took some tracTORS during atta mills time and denied , he is a pathological lair, u see ABLAKWAH IS alleged to have 17 filling station, haruna iddirusu is said to have 10 houses , he is now sitting saying he is deputy member of parliament, some one who did not have one cedi when he entered parliament, and he is trying to disgrace people like ayeako, I BLAME NANA AKUFFO ADDO FOR ALL THIS, AFTER BAWUMIA HAVE TOLD THE WHOLE WORLD THAT MAHAMA AND HIS N,D,C CANT ACCOUNT FOR $37 BILLION DOlLARS, all nana would have done was to set a committee to investigate this case and arrest the criminals involved, ALL N,D,C WANT TO DO IS TO PUT CASES ON N,P,P PEOPLE TO COURSE CONFUSE IN THE COUNTRY, N,P.P MEMBERS MUST BE SMART, AYEAKO MUST SUE AYEARIKA, IT WAS A PLAN THE PLAN IS N,D,C KNOW THAT WITH PEOPLE LIKE AYEAKO, SARFU MARFOR, NANA WILL MAKE GHANA LIKE HEAVEN , SO THEY HAVE TO DISGRACE THEM, NOW, ABOUT 95 percent o ghana peoPle are starving as at now,DUE TO N,D,C CORRUPTION, you see n,d,c are disgrace and want to destroy every one, all ghanA people must condemn n,d,c and ayeariGA, N,D,C should bring back all looted monies, we concern people of ghana are telling nana addo to collect all ghana peoPle monies for us or the YOUTHS OF GHANA WILL COLLECT THE MONIES OUR SELVES, FROM GHANA PEOPLE,
To those who write in capital letters, please save us our eyes. It's just unprofessional. What is the meaning of that?
I am keenly following this story to the end. If there is no iota of truth in Mahama Ayariga's allegation, he should openly relieve himself of the parliamentary seat including Okudjato Ablakwa and Suhini. even if I have to petition the president, I will. The impudence!!!!
I seriously have my doubts about the whole allegation drama and its fall outs. However, because everything is possible under the sun, moon and stars, I am keeping my cool. One guiding principle for a cautious reaction is this, "what if it turns out to be true?" Let's not jump the gun but maintain cool heads, the truth will be unraveled, it's a matter of time and patience.
There is no wisdom in this for the reason being even if the Minority on the Vetting Committee does not approve Agyarko's nomination, it will go to the floor of parliament for deliberation and voting. Now, what is the number of the minority compared to the Majority? At the end of the day there is no way the Minority could prevent Agyarko from becoming the substantive minister. So why would he want to give Bribe? IT'S A TOTAL LIE. Mahama Ayariga started it and he wanted to backtrack and they saw that it was gaining roots, so Okudzato the Kwasiato also joined. Look at the people Okudzato is calling as witnesses; Nii Lantey and the likes. Okudzato said he met Mahama Ayariga going to Muntaka's office so he took that of Ayariga and met Nii Lantey at Muntaka's Office. F00OOLISH Talk. Even kids can tell you are lying. Muntaka knows they are being F00OLISH that's why dissociated himself from it. You guys are not wise because the angle with which you want to pay Agyarko back is so full of flaws. For that Ayariga I don't know whether he's got any brains up there.
