The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed condolences to the family of the late Capt. Maxwell Adam Mahama.
The party urged the Armed Forces and the Police Service to launch thorough investigations into the issue and ensure the perpetrators are brought to book.
"The party again admonishes the good people of this country especially the youth to desist from taking the law into their own hands and rather resort to due process in their pursuit for justice at all-time. Once again, the NPP extends its heartfelt condolence to all; especially the wife and children of the deceased and anticipates that JUSTICE would be served in this matter as quickly as possible and within the ambit of the law," the statement read.

NPP CONDEMNS THE GRUESOME MURDER OF MAXWELL MAHAMA AND COMMISERATES WITH THE BEREAVED FAMILY AND THE NATION
The NPP has learnt with utter shock, the lynching of an Army Officer, whose name has been given as Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama at Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region.
The officer, according to the Ghana Armed Forces, was the leader of a military detachment stationed at the area to help in the fight against galamsey.
It is widely reported that he was murdered by the youth of the area who mistook him for an armed robber on the morning of Monday, May 29, whilst undertaking his regular keep-fit exercise.
The NPP condemns in no uncertain terms, this dastardly and ungodly action of the youth regardless of what may have prompted same.
The party also associates itself with the President's call for a full scale investigation into the matter with immediate effect in order to bring all the perpetuators to justice.
Whilst the party commiserates with the bereaved family, the Ghana Armed Forces and the nation at large, we also wish to applaud the men and women in uniform for exercising maximum restraint under the circumstances.
The party again admonishes the good people of this country especially the youth to desist from taking the law into their own hands and rather resort to due process in their pursuit for justice at all-time.
Once again, the NPP extends its heartfelt condolence to all; especially the wife and children of the deceased and anticipates that JUSTICE would be served in this matter as quickly as possible and within the ambit of the law.

Whether military should be applauded or not that village and its people should prepare for war with we the Northers. We have suffered from these so called akan people for too long. They should wait and see. The battle line has been drawn. They should remain where ever they are now and never return to the village. If they think they are warriors then I dare them to return and face us. We are waiting for them.
illiterate NDC people....everything polities....
HE FATHER'S SIDE OF THE STORY UNRAVEL THE SECRET BEHIND THIS SAD EVENT.UNLESS SERIOUS ATTENTION IS GIVEN TO THE FIGHT AGAINST GALAMSEY BY WEIGHING THE PROS AND CONS, WE SHOULD EXPECT WORSE.WHO ARE LEGAL MINERS? THOSE WHO HAVE THE MONEY TO PAY THE GOVERNMENT AND ARE LICENSED TO OPERATE. ILLEGAL MINERS ARE THE GALAMSEY OPERATORS WHO MAY BE POSSESSING THE LAND THEMSELVES AND HAVE NOT THE MEANS TO ACQUIRE THE LICENSE OR FIND IT DIFFICULT TO ACQUIRE THE APPROVAL.THEY WITNESS THE ***barred word*** OF THEIR NATURAL RESOURCES WITHOUT THE NEEDED DEVELOPMENT LIKE WE ARE SEEING AT OBUASI, TARKWA AND OTHER PLACES.THEIR LANDS ARE TAKEN AND EVEN FARMING BECOME A PROBLEM.LEVEL OF EDUCATION MAKE THEM UNEMPLOYABLE AND THOSE WHO FIND THEMSELVES IN THE MINES GAIN THE EXPERIENCE IN THE MINING AND KNOW WHAT MONEY IS ALL ABOUT SO THEY ALSO WANT TO PUT INTO PRACTICE TO SALVAGE THEIR ECONOMIC STATUS. NOW WE GET PEOPLE GOING ABOUT ESTABLISHING PRIVATE SECURITY COMPANIES TO PROTECT THE LEGAL AND DENYING THE OWNERS OF THE RESOURCES. CREATE CONDUCIVE ATMOSPHERE FOR ALL ELSE WE WOULD END UP USING STATE SECURITY TILL THY KINGDOM COME AND LEAVE PROPER CRIMINALS UNATTENDED TO.THE REASON IS SIMPLE: THOSE DENIED WOULD FIGHT THOSE GIVEN APPROVAL.CREATE THE AVENUE FOR THE RIGHTFUL OWNERS TO REGULATE THEIR ACTIVITIES AS WELL AND GENERATE TOLLS FROM THEM TO ADVANCE THEIR SKILLS AND RECLAIM THE LAND AS A MEANS TO REDEEM THEIR HANDICAP IN ACQUIRING CERTIFICATE AND THEY WOULD CO-EXIST WITHOUT SECURITY BECAUSE WHEN YOU ARE FINE AND I AM FINE, WE ALL LAUGH.
Npp must stop this hypocritical nnonsense and bbullshit .this is the direct result of the actions and behaviour of ur lawless delta and invincible forces
Why should the military be applauded? It is only in a jungle that the military can go on rampage under the pretext of retaliating. When I heard the military saying they won't retaliate, I wondered what they thought of themselves...a machoistic organisation? No organisation does that in any civilised community. Whilst we all frown upon what happened to Capt Mahama, what we expected the military to do was to help investigate the matter to and bring those involved to justice but not to inflict unwarranted atrocities to them. By the way can someone tell why the military were there in the first place. We have all been told there are no soldiers at mining sites.
NPP crocodile tears. It is the lawlessness that NPP brought onto this nation that has culminated in what we are seeing before our eyes. The impunity that the NPP introduce into Ghana has led to the death of a gallant soldier who refused to kill his fellow citizens to protect his own live. Rest In Peace Captain Maxwell Mahama. Fare thee well.
