Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Samuel Ofosu Ampofo is calling on religious bodies of the country to implore President Nana Akufo-Addo to declare his position on the issue of homosexuality.
According to him, the President's interview on Al Jazeera last Sunday implied that homosexuality is illegal in Ghana because there hasn't been a strong coalition to push for its legislation.
And he believes the President is setting an agenda for the homosexual community to rise and stir agitations for legalization of the practice.
President Akufo-Addo in an interview with Qatar-based TV station, Al Jazeera further added that activism to shore up support to reform the culture and laws of the country in support of homosexual practices is "bound to happen".
“This is a social, cultural issue, I don’t believe that in Ghana so far, a sufficiently strong coalition has emerged which is having that impact on public opinion that will say ‘change it, let’s now have a new paradigm in Ghana.’
"I grew up in England; I went to school as a young boy in England and I grew up at a time in England when homosexuality was banned there, it was illegal and I lived in the period when British politicians thought it was anathema to think about changing the law and suddenly the activities of individuals, of groups, a certain awareness, a certain development grew and grew and grew stronger and it forced a change in law. I believe those are the same processes that will bring about changes in our situation.
“At the moment, I don’t feel, I don’t see that in Ghana there is that strong current of opinion that is saying this is something we need to deal with. It is not so far a matter that is on the agenda,” he stated.
But commenting on the issue on PeaceFM's "Kokrokoo" Tuesday, the NDC Natioanl Vice-Chairman opined that President Akufo-Addo's inability to stand his ground and firmly state that Ghana will not legalize homosexuality, is dangerous.
He explained that the homosexual fraternity has powerful backing from certain influential leaders in the world and the President's submissions may potentially engineer their course.
“He’s setting the agenda. The President shouldn’t set the agenda because it’s a very dangerous platform he’s created…It is wrong for the President to set that agenda…The problem the President has created is he has set the agenda”
“The agenda is dangerous. If we’re not careful, we’re going to have a challenge in this country. And LGTB and its allied forces will marshal all resources to influence the laws of this country”, Mr. Ofosu Ampofo stated emphatically on Peace FM.

Sometimes I am marveled at Fotooo's position as an elder and his partisan discourses. I have most times been abashed by his submissions which are mostly partisan and not educative and even Christian. I expected an elder of the Church to know better and conform as such. I must be frank that he disappoints me a lot as a Christian.
NANA IS NOT ABLE ABLE TO "THINK CLEARLY ON HIS FEET".I GUESS HE SAID HOW HE FEELS ABOUT GAY RIGHTS-HE FEELS IT SHOULD BE LEGALISED.WE WILL RESIST GAY RIGHTS IN GHANA WITH ALL OUR MIGHT AND WITH ALL OUR STRENGTH,WE ALSO HAVE OUR RIGHTS TO PROCREATION AND A SOCIETY WITH NORMAL PEOPLE, NOT DEMON-POSSESSED PEOPLE FIGHTING FOR THE WRONGS!!!
i honestly dont do politics at all. but i read a lot and i have never like the bad comments of ofosu ampofo against nana addo or any one. i dont care if nana is put on his toes. its his own business.but is ampofo not a church elder ? leaving his church role as a so called christian elder in his church. combining church and politics ? you are deceiving your path for salvation. all politicians like him shd not think they belong anywhere close to heaven or here on earth, my foot.
ediot when john mahama was and still dining and wining with Andrew Solomon the world leading gay lobbyist did he bring gay practice to Ghana, though i had expected Akuffo Addo to condemn the practice but whatever he said you mor0ns (NDC) have no moral right to attack the good old president, ev1l incarnates NDC
TWEAAAAAAAAAAAAA THIS MAN IS ONLY A PENTECOST ELDER IN NAME ONLY, ELSE HE WILL NOT BE PARTY OF NDC WHICH LIE.S, STEAL.S FROM THE PEOPLE TO ENRICH THEMSELVES.
I thought this Pentecost Elder will be honest.Shame on you Ofosu Ampofo.
NANA ADDO ANSWER TO THE QUESTION WAS A VERY SMART MOVE. STOP MAKING NOISE AND GO TO WORK. I WOULD NOT BE SURPRISE WHEN GAY HAPPEN IN GHANA IN THE NEAR FUTURE. IT IS SOMETHING THE BIBLE HAS SAID AND IT SHALL COME TO PASS. IT ALL ABOUT THE END TIME, LIVE A RIGHTEOUS LIFE FOR GOD IS COMING..
Look at this man without a certificate analyzing what a lawyer has said.Anokwale, gb3m3i shaa am3 he' sha.
pls stop insulting Ofosu Ampafo,I'm strong supporter of NPP and i voted for Nana, but what Nana said is potentially dangerous for the future of Ghana.Let's comdemed gay practice,it is an abomination to God and a curse to every nation that practice it.Nana must be very careful and should not entertain this evil practice in Ghana.May God grant him wisdom to resist it.
