The Former Member of Parliament for the Ablekuma North Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Justice Joe Appiah, has called for the resignation of the Inspector General of Police, David Asante Appeatu.
According to the former MP, the IGP is at liberty to resign if he feels he is unable to perform duties required of him.
“Appeatu is not the only person in the country qualified to be in that office,” he said. “If he cannot do his work, he should resign.”
The former MP, who was speaking on Yen Sempa on Onua FM on Tuesday, accused the IGP of being appointed based on his leaning towards the NPP.
He also blamed the police administration for all the insecurity in the country, adding that nobody should be allowed to justify seeming insecurity in the country since it is a canker that prevents development.
Justice Joe Appiah also cautioned the IGP to sit up and heed to advice from the NPP and NDC as well.
According to him, the time has come for the police to be up and doing, calling on the IGP to, as a matter of urgency, mobilize enough resources to get the police all the necessary working equipment to enhance and improve the work of the service.
Reacting to recent incidents of violence, lawlessness and criminal acts in Ghana, the former MP lamented that if the police, who are mandated to ensure law and order, do not feel secure, there is the need for the citizenry to worry.
He further expressed worry over the public losing confidence in the police.
Former MP for La Dade-Kotopong Nii Amasa Namoale, who was also on the Yen Sempa show, called on the police to mount a serious search for those who shot the policeman at Kwabenya and bring the perpetrators to book.

THOUGH I VOTED AND DEFEND PREZ AKUFFO ADDO, SAME CAN NOT BE SAID OF OUR PERSONAL SECURITY. AAH DAVID APEATU SHOULD HAVE BEEN ALLOWED TO GO ON HIS RETIREMENT. WHY? I UNDERSTAND KOFI BOAKYE IS AN NDC MAN, BUT HE IS VERY METICULOUS IN THE POLICE PROFESSING. EVEN ON RADIO WE THE COMMUNICATORS CAN HELP IN DEFENDING THESE BIZARRE SECURITY LAPSES. PLEASE CONSIDER RELIEVING THE IGP- DAVID APEATU OFF HIS POST TO SAVE THE FEW LIVES LEFT. OTHERWISE I DON'T SEE HOW WE WILL CAMPAIGN AGAIN WITH THESE GOING FORWARD
For the fact that the IGP is not up to the task and HE HAS TO GO NOW does not make Kofi Boakye who sits and negotiates with drug peddlers the best option. There are more competent officers around. Mr President please shine your eyes.
VERY WELL SAID ALEXANDER BAYON
kofi boakye is the best man for IGP sack that man
well said my big brother, our constitution need to be amended so that all sensitive posts such as the police, armed forces, CJ, ceps, GPHA, Directors, Vice chancellors, erectors, BNI, EOCO And the like should have their heads elected by their very subjects they seek to govern in their respective jurisdictions. the IGP especially should be voted for by all citizens such that individual will not be manipulated by politicians. good morning.
