Former Prez Mahama Bequeathed More Harsher Economy To Ghanaians - Richard Ahiagbah

The former general secretary aspirant of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Richard Ahiagbah has highlighted some of the failings of former president  Mahama under his regime.

Former President Mahama On the occasion of the 2019 May Day assessed the Akufo-Addo-led government as characterized by massive job losses and unemployment and also blamed them on the unprecedented insecurity in the country.

Mr. Ahiagbah reacting on Asempa FM stated that former President Mahama's claim of economic hardship today is a suggestion that the economic conditions were better in 2016 when he lost the elections.

He added that the economy that "President Mahama led and bequeathed to Ghanaians on January 7th, 2017 is hundred times harsher".

According to him, the 2016 macroeconomic indicators confirm just how terrible the economy was under President Mahama.

“It is a fact that all the macroeconomic metrics were trending in the negative under President Mahama. So, why is the former president trying to describe a post-2016 economy whose macroeconomic fundamentals are trending in the positive and free from the clutches of IMF as harsh? I guess the question Ghanaians want the former President to answer is harsh economic conditions compare to what.  Whatever the case might be, the former president merely exposed the monumental failure of his Presidency.”

In calling on Nana Addo's administration to work conscientiously to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals number eight, Richard Ahiagbah says he sees "one of two things going on in the former President Mahama's mind".

"First, former President Mahama was being disingenuous, and secondly, that the former President is not being an honest broker", he chided.

He maintained that the Nana Addo and Bawumia administration have done more in two years to move Ghana closer to the attainment of the SDG goal eight than what the late President Atta Mills and President Mahama's government dreamt to do in eight years.

"SDGs goal eight suggests the promotion of sustainable economic growth and decent work for all. Regardless of your political colors, every honest broker will tell you that, implementing Free SHS, One District One Factory, Planting for Food and Jobs, and attendant Planting for Export and Rural Development are unimpeachable policy measures that put Ghana on the path to achieving the said SDGs goal eight".

He therefore cautioned former President Mahama that "what Ghanaians need is not misinformation from former President Mahama, but rather to resolve to continue to push, to support the Akufo Addo's government to do more to dry the tears left our eyes by a failed Mahama Presidency".
