Former Chief of Defence Staff Brigadier General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah has advised ex-president John Dramani Mahama not to contest the 2020 elections.
In an interview with TV3, the former National Security Advisor said he does not understand the rationale behind John Mahama’s comeback as he needs to accept defeat and hang his armour.
He said the best thing the former president should have done was to support someone else with his expertise to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) instead of contesting again. “It’s too late now to go back, but if I were him, I will never come back…Ghana is moving forward,” he said.
“What you should do is position yourself to help the party…when a general loses war, they are replaced.”
Somewhere last year, former President John Dramani Mahama announced that he is seeking a second shot at the presidency because he believes he owes a duty to God and the country to do so. John Mahama’s declaration ended months of speculation about his intention to make a comeback.
