Ghana’s Auditor-General, Mr Daniel Domelevo, has said he will neither resign voluntarily nor be pushed out of office by any pressure group.
Civil society group Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) recently said it will petition President Nana Akufo-Addo to remove Mr Domelevo over alleged procurement breaches at the Audit Service in connection with the purchase of some Toyota vehicles worth GHS6 million.
The pressure group had earlier asked the Attorney General to commence criminal investigations into the matter but in its latest statement, AFAG has asked the Auditor-General to resign or be sacked by President Nana Akufo-Addo.
In a yet-to-be-aired interview with Blessed Sogah, host of State of the Nation on Class91.3FM, Mr Domelevo said not even President Akufo-Addo can remove him from office.
Reading from the Audit Service regulation, the Auditor-General said: “It says: ‘The Board further directed that because the state had obtained services and in order to avert financial loss to the state through judgment debt, instant steps should be taken by the Ghana Audit Service to pay the supplier after verifying the outstanding debt.
“So, they directed us, they didn’t say they asked us that: ‘Go ahead and pay’. So, at that point in time, it is a legal liability, it is a debt which is genuine...so, AFAG, they don’t know what they are talking about…”
“I’ll never resign because of their pressure. The day I wish I go home; I’ll just walk out of the office. There are two things when I came to office, I’ve said I don’t fear and one is resignation – leaving my office. I can decide to walk any time but you can’t push me out of my office. That will never happen, not even the president. I won’t go unless he goes through the full steps that the law allows, I’ll not go”, he insisted.
“The second thing, which is the ultimate for you and me, is death. I said I don’t fear if you want to kill me in my office, I’m ready to die but when I die make sure you don’t die.”

If the Auditor-General can be removed by following certain steps, Mr Domelovo must know he is not indispensable and the President will definitely remove him if there is evidence of malfeasance. Ghanaians want him to do his work and stop the unnecessary talking and bragging since he is not above the love.
This MAN is bragging at his one corner, very soon petitions will start pouring out from few Ghanaians on ur alleged GHc6 million Purchase of Toyota Cars. You think you are untouchable, right? If you have so soon forgetton Charlotte Osei I am reminding you of how she was relieved of her Post through very petitions and advice from CJ on alleged corruption.
I just can't understand what this guy is all about. Why should he think the President would want to remove him in the first place. It is indeed, very true that by their deeds you will get to know them where they are coming from. I believe, very well from the NDC fraternity. It is a mindset typical of the NDC because that is what they are used to and practice.
Because you have a crocodile skin and hippopotamus face. Why do you think you are untouchable? only in Ghana and Africa. Because of people like you the whole African continent is bleeding to death. From JJ to civil servants to the so called latter day pastors, ghana and Africa has been thrown under pandemonium ruled by clueless politicians who have sold their souls to every foreigner. The slave trade mentality still exist in the minds of Ghanaian technocrats hence the failure we see across the board.
The government want this guy out already. He is a stumbling block for many deals. Mr AG the president cannot remove you on his own volition but he can facilitate the process. The constitution provides that upon the president receiving a petition, he will have ot forward it to the CJ and if on the case of it there is a question for you to answer, you will be suspended and a panel set up to investigate. You know that the panel will definitely consist of Dotse and co and the final decision is clear to all. Just look at what happened to the former EC chair.
The AG is doing well. But he should not be found wanting. For The laws regarding his removal by the President is very clear.
