Political Science Department of the University of Ghana has indicated that six out of 10 Ghanaians are in favour of new voters' register for the 2020 elections.
According to a survey by the Political Science Department, 64.9% of Ghanaians support the Electoral Commission’s decision to compile a new voters’ register for the December polls.
The respondents believe a new register will ensure credibility in the polls.
According to the survey, 27,500 were interviewed across the 16 regions and the number backed the EC.
In the Ashanti Region, 74.42% out of 4,707 respondents and in the Volta Region, 54% out of 1,800 respondents voted yes for a new voters’ register respectively.
The respondents were optimistic the new register will help “remove deceased names...detect foreign names” and above all ensure there’s a credible register.
The survey follows a standoff between some political parties and the Electoral Commission to have a new register for the Ghanaian electorates.
