Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr has asked politicians to ‘rise above pettiness’ in their discourse.
This follows a recent controversy surrounding the airbus bribery scandal reported a few days ago, and the attempt to name some presumed principle actors in the scandal.
Following the revelation of the bribery scheme, some Ghanaians have been on the ‘hunt’ for who government official 1 and intermediary 5 and 8 are since no name was mentioned in the document.
While government has charged the Special Prosecutor to deal with the issue, the New Patriotic Party is confident that government official 1 is former President John Mahama.
On Monday [February 3, 2020], the ruling party called on former President John Dramani Mahama to respond to allegations that an individual close to a top government official was bribed by Airbus between 2011 and 2015 in the now-famous scandal.
All Fingers Point To Mahama
Addressing a press conference in Accra, Mr Yaw Buabeng Asamoah, Communications Director for the NPP said "the companies used to receive the bribe money have been named. The shareholder who is very close to the former President has been named. Document falsification, kickbacks, lies and overpayments is what the Airbus scandal is all about. And it appears John Mahama is deeply involved."
Adding that, “he cannot continue to hide behind his party members including a former Attorney-General. Of course, we are all aware that he hates answering questions on corruption, but answer he must, because at this moment, all fingers point to him and one of his brothers.”
Rise Above Pettiness
However, speaking during a panel discussion on Peace FM's morning show ‘Kokrokoo’, Kwesi Pratt said government “official 1 could be anybody; a parliamentarian, minister of defense, vice president, or president”.
According to him, so far, “no Ghanaian official has been indicted or convicted…what we have are a series of allegation…” adding “if a corrupt act emerges, let’s deal with the issue (void of politics) and punish the culprits to serve as a deterrent. It is not about who is going to win the next elections or NPP or NDC. we should rise above pettiness and get to the point of principle”.

@Chartered Accountant, you have really disgraced your lecturer. From your own statement "decoding government official 1" so where is the government official in your decoded statement. You cannot decouple government official and the elected and begin to put a spin on the elected by giving this funny explanation to 'elected'. Logic will tell you that is a conjunction GO1 and Elected. When is a conjunction true? It is True when both statements are True. So the person who qualify for the description must be first a Government official and then and elected. So if you had accepted the person is NDC before going for that funny explanation to elected I would have given you some credit. Go back to school.
Kwasi Pratt I think you are out of your mind period
@Ala, I cannot and will never say Government official 1 is John Mahama. Go to the Crown Court of UK and ask who Government Official 1 is and spare us all deductions and the talk in Ghana. That is my challenge. He who alleges must proof. That's why I admire Vice President Bawumia and NDC Sammy Gyamfi alot, because these men speaks with facts and figures.
@Chartered Accountant, GO1 is not an Official elected by Airbus. Cannot also be a random business man or just an ordinary MP. Now GO1 as stated in the judgement, is an official responsible for such military transactions. And when you check our constitution, officials responsible for such transactions for the military is the Military Council and it is headed by an elected official of government (ie the Vice President). Now the judgement also says that GO1 first contacted Airbus and expressed interest in purchasing aircrafts. He subsequently introduced Intermidiary 5 to airbus to be an agent for the transaction. airbus internal checks revealed that GO1 and intermediary 5 are related. Now even the US investigation says, GO1 and intermediary 5 are brothers............... if you want to act the ostrich, you can please yourself, but do not try to rubbish rational to all of us.
Go to the Crown Court of UK and ask them who the Government Official 1 (Elected) is and stop all the talk in Ghana about who the Official 1 is. We need facts and not propangada
Logic tells us GO1,and his long lost brother Samuel Mahama cannot be anybody than ex-president Mahama. We are not ***barred word***.
Please go and take your medication. Mahama nie corruption nie
You are never serious. GO1 aka Kanazoe ford bribe taker has been busted. Go sit somewhere mr.hypocrite.
Dr Kwasi Agyemang lectured me Logic at the University of Ghana in the year 2000. Decoding Government Official 1 (Elected) using Logic: An Official elected by Airbus to represent them in the Contract agreement with the Government of Ghana. This can be anybody with the capacity to negotiate on behalf of the Company. It can be a businessman, a government employee, an opposition MP, someone within the corridors of power, etc. Simply it can be anybody. Some of us are highly educated and do not fall for political propaganda of uneducated or less educated politicians like Wontumi, Kennedy Agyepong, Asamoa Buabeng etc.
