The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Asiedu Nketia says Ghana is in a state of emergency due to COVID-19 but the Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu is brewing controversy with the Airbus scandal.
This follows Martin Amidu's invite to some four persons over the Airbus scandal.
The four are Samuel Mahama, who he describes as a brother of former President John Mahama; Philip Sean Middlemiss; Sarah Davis and Sarah Furneaux, all British nationals, to come and answer some questions on the various roles they allegedly played in the sale and purchase of the aircraft.
Mr Asiedu Nketia believes Martin Amidu is deliberately causing controversy and diversion with the Airbus scandal in a period where Ghana is battling with COVID-19.
"If Martin Amidu was fighting corruption I would back him but there is a clear indication that he has an agenda, this invite has the name of Mahama attached and it will only stare up controversy. Ghana has even closed its borders but you invite people who are UK citizens. So now that borders are closed how can they come into the country, this is not a fight against corruption but clearly an unnecessary diversion and controversy. We are now fighting a common enemy which is coronavirus, offices are closed how is his office special from the others, this is not the time for Airbus scandal at all", he spoke in a radio interview.
Background
Airbus, Europe’s largest aerospace multinational, confessed to a High Court in London of paying huge bribes in order to secure contracts in Ghana, between 2011 and 2015.
The plane maker has been fined three billion pounds (£3bn) as penalties. Anti-corruption investigators, according to The Guardian Report, described the court's decision as the largest ever corporate fine for bribery in the world after judges declared the corruption was “grave, pervasive and pernicious”.
“The planemaker agreed to pay the penalties on Friday after reaching settlements with investigators in the UK, France and the US to end inquiries that started four years ago,” the report stated.
The Court, however, noted that Airbus “used a network of secret agents to pay large-scale backhanders to officials in foreign countries to land high-value contracts’.
In the case of Ghana, the court found that the company’s bribe was to land the contract of purchase of a military transport aircraft.
“Between 1 July 2011 and 1 June 2015 Airbus SE failed to prevent persons associated with Airbus SE from bribing others concerned with the purchase of military transport aircraft by the Government of Ghana, where the said bribery was intended to obtain or retain business or advantage in the conduct of business for Airbus SE,” the court’s statement of offence noted.
The documents indicated that one of the unnamed Ghanaian officials was “a key decision-maker in respect of Government of Ghana aircraft orders.”
A number of Airbus employees “made or promised success-based commission payments of approximately €5 million” to one of the Ghanaians implicated in the acts of corruption.
Although no names were listed by the UK’s Serious Fraud Office, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has come out to insist that former President John Mahama is the person identified as the “elected Government Official 1? named in US and UK court documents.

The law is the law. Nothing should stop the due process of Law. Obviously there will be delays during travel restrictions -we dont need any propaganda ***barred word*** to tell us that. If you and your people are Innocent you have Nothing to Fear. We See Your Fear.
Amidu is garbage waisting tax payers money as monthly salary
Ei, Asiedu Nketiah! When did you start fighting the enemy? Yesterday coronavirus was a political tool to do propaganda; today you reformed it to common enemy we are fighting. When will you stop your j0kes? Airbus will continue to be discussed and politicised if Mahama"s doesn't come out to tell us the names of the coded persons. Now you're hot in the Airbus and Ghanaians will continue to fan it to intensify the heat until you come out so better stop your 1rr3sp0ns1ble talks.
So when will this man learn to shut his mouth for once??
hose desperate, but spiteful political statements, propaganda and baseless polemics are the clear indications that NDC as a Party, is doom to collapse completely. The league of the modern-day Ghana politics led by the NPP in a matured and expedient manner is just too advanced for the NDC to cope with. It is just too obvious to note that, the NDC as a player has a big problem, contending with massive difficulties. Intellectually, NDC has a massive deficit in competence, in terms of strategizing to formulate policy guidelines and compete with NPP squarely. So as to prove to Ghanaian people that, indeed, NDC is capable to speak constructively to political issues and has what it takes to assume the mantle of prudent economic management, governance, and responsible leadership. The propaganda, lies, and comics are just one too many. Indeed, the General secretary Mr. Asiedu Nketiah's style of politicking is abysmal, below the standards of even the so-called Foot soldiers, if you want to be honest.
Why the buses in the air is it an NDC problem or a national one. Thought I read you saying you won't stop politicizing COVID-19. Is politicizing it part of the fight? Wo be te wo piga
THE OSP JOB HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE GOVERNMENT FIGHT AGAINST COVID 19. MR. AMIDU MUST WORK
So the airbus scandal is of no concern to Asiedu Nketiah? This is the behaviouof the guilty ones! God is still watching.
Everything must come to a standstill
Bullllshit. ***barred word*** . shame on you and Mahamma. he want to be the president again. Never ***barred word*** funu
