General Secretary of the ruling NPP, John Boadu has said that the party is devastated by the death of its former General Secretary, Lawyer Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie popularly known as Sir John.
According to him, he is lost of words and couldn’t describe how he felt when he read on a platform about the death of his former boss.
Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' programme, he said that “I received a call from the President last night with him also inquiring about what he was hearing, so I asked him to give me some 10 minutes to confirm and revert, and I just couldn’t believe my ears when I had the confirmation."
"This is a big blow to the party and no words can describe our loss," he added.
Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John, reportedly passed away on Wednesday evening at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after a short illness.
The renowned lawyer-cum-politician died after testing positive for the novel Coronavirus.
Sir John reportedly succumbed to complications of the disease while undergoing treatment at the ICU of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
Until his death, Sir John was the CEO of the Forestry Commission.
He was appointed as the CEO of the Forestry Commission in March 2017 by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
