The independent Member of Parliament (MP) for Fomena, Andrew Asiamah Amoako has officially written to Speaker Alban Bagbin "to associate with the NPP".
In a letter dated January 13, 2021, and addressed to the Speaker he said “I Andrew Asiamah Amoako, an Independent Member for Fomena constituency and now the 2nd Deputy Speaker for the same Parliament do hereby declare that, I shall for the purposes of transacting business in the house associate with the NPP in the Eighth Parliament.”
“For the avoidance of doubt, I do hereby affirm that I shall cooperate and collaborate with the NPP Caucus in the Eighth Parliament,” he concluded.
Even though he had already indicated his intention to do business with the NPP in various interviews before the inauguration of the 8th Parliament, he needed to make it official.
The NPP and the NDC currently have 137 seats each and are in a tussle over who is the majority.
According to report, this move by the Fomena MP is therefore very crucial for the NPP caucus as it can push them into a majority.

The independent candidate associating with the NPP for the purpose of transacting business does not make them the majority. He is not a member of the Party he has to abdicate his seat and go for bye election on the NPP ticket. PERIOD.
