The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) says President Akufo-Addo can't be blamed for the flouting of COVID-19 protocols at the funeral of former Forestry Commission boss, Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie, aka Sir John.
Pressure group, OccupyGhana and other critics have criticized the President for being present while mourners disregarded Covid-19 safety protocols during the burial.
“We cannot show such a remarkable sense of recklessness and abandon in these times and not expect to reap disastrous and possibly deadly consequences. This disregard for the law will embolden several people to treat Covid-19 protocols with disdain and contempt,” OccupyGhana said in a statement.
Ghana Medical Association, also speaking against the incident said the organisers need to be prosecuted for flouting the Imposition of Restrictions Act, 2020 (Act 1012) which prohibits mass gathering amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
Dr Frank Ankobea, President of the GMA speaking in an interview on Kumasi-based Hello FM said President Akufo-Addo can't be blamed for what happened at the burial ceremony because he wasn't part of the organisers.

He is to blame. Pure and simple.
Very disappointing indeed. Culture of silence at work here! I honestly don't know what his family thinks of him.
Silly analogy. When he got there and saw the blatant disregard for his regulations what did he do? Did he not partake in the illegality? How can you, Ankobea make such a senseless comment?
You people are so scared of this Akuffo Addo is unbelievable. Can't you speak the truth for once and and hold our leaders responsible. When Donald Trump was being bashed for holding super spreader campaigns during the pandemic, was he the actual organizer?? Leaders have the responsibility to send a message to the citizens by refusing to attend such programs if the covid protocols will be breached
