Anxiety has taken the better part of life in the metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs) following the high expectation of the announcement of who become metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives (MMDCEs) across the country.
Weeks after the vetting process for the appointments ended, and eight months into President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s second term, many Ghanaians are waiting with bated breath for the soon-to-be-announced list of MMDCEs.
The race as to who become MCEs for the two biggest metropolises — Accra and Kumasi — is the biggest attraction so far.

How can this be a race? The people are not in any electoral competition. The MMDCEs are there at the whim of the president and not because they court votes from the electorate. So, how can it be a race when all that it takes to be an DCE is for the president to appoint you irrespective of how dmub and blokc-headed you are.
