The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin has denied allegations of bias levelled against him by a section of Parliamentarians.
A statement from the Public Affairs Directorate of Parliament assured “citizens that allegations of bias are unfounded and should not be entertained”.
This statement follows the rejection of the 2022 budget on Friday.
All 137 Minority MPs rejected the motion to approve the budget after the Majority staged a walkout.
The Majority had accused the Speaker of being biased after he asked Ministers who were not MPs to leave the chambers but turned a blind eye to the presence of the General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah.
Speaking to this, the statement said approval of budgets “are sometimes characterized by disagreements but usually, the House is able to come to some agreement. The events that have characterized the scrutiny of this particular budget is no exception”.
The Speaker said he’s “aware of the National nature of the budget and the need to do what is best for the entire citizenry”.

The speaker is so bias, power drunk and a talkative.
NDC is truly a threat to democracy. NDC don't have the numbers to reject the budget but how come did the biased speaker supervised such an illegality. A speaker who has been in parliament for 28years could not understand and interpret basic standing orders of the house he presides over. It's only when your mind is clouded with too much partisan politics or he is overwhelmed with the position he occupies. From his utterances he never dreamt of becoming a speaker. Again I think the fire from Sammy Gyamfi has made him to do the bidding of the party. I have now come to a realization that he doesn't have the country at heart but have allegiance to his party. The speaker is a nation wreacker
Bagbin you are biased and arrogant! Period.
very interesting write up by Peacefmonline.com. Was general mosquito in the chamber or the gallery ? was he alone in the gallery or there were other people?. why didn't the majority side stay and use their numbers? or some of their members were not in parliament?
The NDC as a political party, given its attitude towards the practice of democracy in the fourth republic of Ghana, has been that of cosmetic measures to keep it in power to seize and plunder the resources of the nation, but not for the general good of its people per se. Saying this, I have in sight the numerous uncoordinated and not properly planned exorbitant projects like the Dubai interchange, the sugar plant and the E-blocks projects, just to mention a few. And it is instructive to note that most of the projects are rushed to be executed shortly before elections. Now, just look at how they are out there in their numbers, like hunting dogs with sharp teeth, doing all sorts of malacious propaganda to get first political power, and then everything will be added to it, so to speak. Then, they just have nothing to show, so they don't campaign on achievements, the green book was not successful so what else?
This speaker is only interested in his position and all the privileges associated with it. He always creates his own authority and wants to draw all attention to himself anytime by all means.
