The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, Mr. Patrick Yaw Boamah, has asked the elephant family not to be complacent in their quest to break the 8-year-jinx.
The lawmaker told Kwabena Agyapong on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm that they can present the strongest and formidable team for the 2024 presidential polls, but with a strong and unified front, that victory they search for would be a mirage.
He said without a strong foundation, the party would not win the elections.
Using former President Kufour as an example, he said his approval rating was so high that he would have won a third term if Ghana’s constitution allowed it.
”But we made some mistakes, and so let’s focus on building a strong party. That should be our main focus. We should build a strong party from the base, so that no matter who we present as a candidate, we will win.
If you don’t build a strong foundation and appoint good national officers, constituency officers, dedicated polling station officers, coordinators for them to work and focus on who becomes flagbearer, then you’ve lost the plot.”
He insisted that ”our [NPP] energies and focus should be on building a strong party base.

Honourable, as for the mistakes, it started the very day Akuffo Addo took over from Mahama. Majority of the current appointees i.e. Ministers, deputies MMDCEs are not fit for purpose. The fact that NPP ministers who were also MP's losing their seats in the 2020 elections is enough evidence to support the above. You can have a dedicated party person who may not be popular among his people. If you are hardworking but rude, arrogant, selfish, full of empty pride you can't add one person to the party despite your hardwork. If your human relations is poor politics is not your field but this is what is happening in the current NPP. If the party supporters say they don't want a particular person as minister or DCE and the president insists on appointing them, when it comes to voting too, he should come and force the party supporters to vote for the party. I keep saying NPP did not win the 2016 elections rather the NDC lost the elections because of neglect of party foot soldiers thinking the many projects by John Mahama will win them the elections. Projects don't vote. Unfortunately NPP is repeating same mistakes NDC made leading to their abysmal performance in 2016. Kufour's elephant had big ears and listened a lot. Akuffo Addo's elephant has big ears too unfortunately his elephant doesn't listen, at worse it will hear but won't listen. How do you break the 8 with this attitude. If current happenings in parliament are not enough a lesson, then the president and his appointees together with the party leadership will never learn. Fear people who are quiet, you never can read their minds, yooooo . Ask John Mahama where the crowds he was pulling in 2016 went to during the elections and he ended with 44%. NPP appointees ,Continue to tickle yourself and laugh. The NDC/ NPP match will come on, you will only know it's not well when counting of votes begin, yooooo
