Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt has hailed government's withdrawal of Speaker Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin's Military security detail.
According to Mr. Pratt, removing the soldiers from the Speaker's protection unit is a step in the right direction.
A letter dated 11th January, 2022 and signed by Major General Nicholas Peter Andoh, the Chief of Staff at the General Headquarters of GAF, ordered the soldiers to return by January 14, 2022.
It indicated that the soldiers were "attached to the Office of the Right Honourable Speaker of Parliament without the proper procedure."
“It is humbly requested that the personnel are withdrawn with effect from 14 January 2022 while efforts are made to regularise their attachment,” the letter further said.
Discussing the matter during Peace FM's ''Kokrokoo'', the seasoned journalist questioned the logic in even having soldiers serve as part of the Speaker of Parliament's security detail in the first place.
Mr Pratt also wondered why some Pastors and the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Madam Jean Mensah have military protection and pointed out that since it's wrong for the Speaker to have military personnel among his security detail, equally so are these people quilty.
The ace journalist expressed alarm by the number of Police personnel serving the Speaker and wondered why the average Ghanaian doesn't have such privilege.
''What's the ratio of Police to citizens in Ghana for one person to have 12 Police officers?'' he questioned.
''It's a good step to withdraw the soldiers from the Speaker. It's not a bad thing. I haven't ever seen nor heard that soldiers guard a Speaker...Why? Is Ghana going to war or is Boko Haram here?'' he snapped.
