Details have started coming out as to why the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin requested for military protection from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
The Speaker apart from having security for his residence, office block which was said to be numbering about 12, reportedly went ahead to request for military security for his road movement saying that he was afraid of terrorists and armed robbers.
It is against this movement and fear that Parliament wrote to the Chief of Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to request four soldiers as security detail for the Speaker.
In a letter dated January 18, 2022 few days in office and signed by Cyril Nsiah, Clerk to Parliament, he said, “as pertains in other jurisdictions, the Speaker seeks to add military personnel to his security detail for his protection during road movement across the country.
According to him, “this is paramount, especially in this day and age of terrorism and violent armed robberies. Moreover, coming from the northern part of the country, he will be undertaking several trips up north to visit family and friends and conduct the business of the legislature, which will require close protection.”
Parliament then requested military security for Speaker Bagbin from GAF.
Parliament said four personnel have been identified to fit the role and went ahead to request the GAF Chief of Staff to release them to the Office of the Speaker.
Sgt Adekurah Andrew, S/Sgt Agbley Prosper, WO1 Jafaru Bunwura and Cpl1 Bonney Prince were the officers requested to be attached to Mr Bagbin’s office.
Parliament further requested the GAF Chief of Staff that “the personnel are well-kitted and equipped in terms of arms and ammunitions to enable them to carry out their duties effectively.”
In withdrawing the soldiers, the Chief of Staff, wrote to Parliament saying that the four officers were attached without proper procedure.
The officers have been serving Bagbin’s office since he became Speaker in January 2021.
The Majority further rubbished claims that the withdrawal of the military personnel was an attempt to gag the speaker.

That's why I don't vote. If you vote or not, the same rubbish! Only foo-ls vote in Ghana. There are no beds for the sick at our hospitals, kids are studying under trees, and no good roads in the country and look at what that selfish id-iot is thinking about after taken multiple ex-gratia. I just can't wait for a major house cleaning (coup d'etat) so we all struggle. Rubbish
What a selfish person. He is just afraid of his own shadow. If not, why this ***barred word*** and arrogant request and demands. Is it because he became the spesaker that armed robbery has started or it has been the case all the time but he is now afraid because he wants to misuse the nations revenue. He does not need more than 2 bodygaurd provided by Ghana police. If his job is a treat to his life, no one forced him to be the speaker. Resign and stop the childish reasoning you are providing.
In that case he should move the army barracks to his residence. What makes him think he's more valuable than any other Ghanaian, Is it because of his position? Maybe he should be asking for a grave that would prevent his carcass being eaten by worms and that would give him eternal preservation.
Very selfish speaker. So you are afraid of armed rubbers and terrorist and so irrespective of the 12 policemen who provide you with security you still want 4 soldiers. What happens to the ordinary Ghanaian whose hard earned tax money is used to pay that your extravagant benefits. Does the ordinary Ghanaian have even 1 policeman to protect him or her? nns3m fo saa na politicians 3di w) Ghana ha. God will judge all of you Rubbish
I hope that the president of the Republic of Ghana ( Nana Akufo Addo ) has heard about this security request from the speaker of parliament. What is happening to Ghanaian politicians??? Mr Alban Bagbin, you mentioned your fears coupled with armed robberies activities and possible terrorists attack in Ghana.I hope you are very much aware of recent killings of Ghanaians, eg. market women, teachers, and nurses etc by armed robbers. You are only concerned about your selfish security protection. So what about the ordinary ghanaians walking along the streets of Accra, Bolga, Kumasi, Tamale and Takoradi. Do you care about them?? What kind of politicians are serving the country? Thier interest first or the country first. The calibar of current politicians serving the country are full of themselves, prided with arrogant and money making politicians.
This is one of the funniest, most trashful and hypocritical guys in Ghana's politics. I wonder why the NPP remains silent on some of the issues, knowing that they have facts and knowledge to stop the bitter propaganda of the opposition. They should know that the opposition they want to help or save are more than ready to destroy them at the slightest chance. Open your eyes!
This reason is absolutely gibberish. So now the NDC people know that military provide better security than policemen. Double standards and shame to Bagbin, Haruna Iddrisu and the NDC party as a whole. Even the Vice president has know military personnel in his convoy, how much you number 3. You are paid well as a speaker so go ahead and hire private security for yourself in addition to the 12 policemen the state is paying to protect you. Selfish man. you get free medical care, convoy, free accommodation and fleet of cars and now you need military protection, aaah ba, na nnema.
Greedy guy.... we are all afraid of armed robbers and terrorists just like you. This guy is not fit to be speaker of our parliament. He will destroy that institution before his tenure ends. The NDC party must turn against him and remove him.
