A Former Constituency Communications Officer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the Abirem Constituency, Mr George Krobea Asante, has called on members of the party to unite in their pursuit to break the eight-year power cycle.
According to him, “the party’s disappointing performance in the 2020 general election which culminated in the loss of our parliamentary majority status was ample proof that all is not well with our dear party”.
“Let's unite to give our party a new direction, a new hope and a new crop of leadership,” Mr Asante said.
Survey
He was responding to a publication by a private newspaper on a purported survey undertaken by the Research Bureau at the presidency.
“The poll, according to the publication, sought the opinion of some 4,000 party delegates on their preferred candidates for various National Executive portfolios as the party prepares to elect new executives. While acknowledging the interest shown by the aforementioned newspaper on matters of the New Patriotic Party, I wish to put on record that details of the said poll are completely false.”
“Consultations with the leadership of the Research Directorate at the presidency has uncovered that while the said poll was conducted during the National Delegates Conference held in Kumasi, detailed findings of the survey have not even been concluded and analysed,” it said.
Checks
Mr Asante said his checks had further revealed that Dr Isaac Owusu-Mensah, renowned political scientist and Head of Research at the Presidency, was incensed that some individuals would concoct figures to misrepresent the findings of a research that had not even been published.
According to the statement, since the country returned to multiparty democracy in 1992, delegates of the NPP had proven to be independent minded who could not be swayed or deceived by false publications.

One year on after the 2020 elections the behavior of the current NPP leadership both at the level of the party and government makes one feel that they have not learnt any lessons. If in opposition with less resources, you were able to secure 169 seats out of 275 through the untiring efforts of NPP foot soldiers some of whom used their own means of transport for the NPP never bought campaign vehicles in 2016 only for these hard working party faithful to be neglected and forgotten, how are you going to break the 8 without the party foot soldiers? Kufuor had a skill of moving party and government along, Akuffo Addo is lacking in that skill. If the 2020 elections haven't thought the NPP leadership any lessons then they will never learn as 2024 could be worse. The current pathetic state of the NPP in parliament is enough a signal. The Kufuor elephant had big ears and listened a lot thus after 8 years in power 2001-2008 the NPP was still the popular choice of Ghanaians the reason why Akuffo Addo led by 49% in the first round of the elections. Unfortunately the Akuffo Addo elephant equally has big ears but does not listen, at best it will hear but won't listen. I ask myself whether the current NPP appointees also take a minute to think of who they were before 2017 to appreciate that it's through the sacrifices of others that they are enjoying free fuel, free V8, free water and electricity, free accommodation, free item 13, clothing and entertainment allowance etc. if they know this and still see party foot soldiers as nuisance today by denying them access to their homes and offices then the 8 will and can never be broken. It's like some of the current NPP appointees are not fit for purpose. How can NPP lose in a polling station where a minister votes right in front of his/ her family house, it's amazing . So who's polling station should the NPP win for you to be made a minister? If you are a minister or DCE for 4 years and get get your own family to vote in favor of your party you are definitely not fit for purpose,at all. But these are the caliber of people Akuffo Addo has sorrounded himself with because his ears are not on the ground
