Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has finally responded to Parliament's invitation to give an account of how COVID-19 funds received have been managed.
Giving a breakdown of the expenditure on Wednesday, June 22 he said “These expenditures may be drawn from the Consolidated Fund, Contingency Fund or other Statutory Funds earmarked for specific purposes.”
“Mr Speaker, at this juncture, I wish to dispel the notion that there have been inconsistencies in government data on Covid-19. The President intimated during that State of the Nation Address on March 30, 2022, that we had mobilized about Gh¢17.7 billion since 2020 to fight the pandemic.
We have subsequently reconciled the data and I can report that as of end-May, 2022, we have mobilized Gh¢18.19 billion to mitigate the effect of the pandemic. Again, when the Vice President indicated on April 7, 2022, at the National TESCON Conference that government had spent Gh¢8.1 billion on Covid-19, it was within the context of expenditures for 2020 as I have already indicated,” he added.

From what I read, in the statement, it seems million and billion have been misused!!! unless someone explains to me otherwise. all the moneys raised were in billions but expenditure in millions and balance in millions. it seems we should have more than 18 billion cedis left which is not realistic so in simple terms the finance minister did not proof read his document before bringing it out. I just have three questions: 1. How much was raised?, 2. How much has been spent?, 3. How much is left?
