The Member of Parliament for North Tongu constituency, Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa has asked government to scrap the controversial Electronic Transaction Levy (E-levy) since it's going to the IMF.
It may be recalled that part of the campaign to convince Ghanaians to pay the e-levy was that it will prevent us from going to the Fund.
However, a tweet from Gabby Asare Otchere Darko suggested that the GHc 600m estimated has not been achieved.
"What options are open to government? The question should rather be: what option, if adopted, will re-inject investor confidence in our economy? Even if we find the $3-5 billion required, will that help? E-levy which was to have given us some 600m by now has done less than 60m," he tweeted.
Subsequently, on Friday, 2nd July, 2022 government announced its decision to go back to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to support its economic programme.
Reacting to this on his Facebook page, Okudjeto Ablakwa wrote: "You gave Ghanaians two options: E-Levy or IMF.
Having opted for the IMF, any honest government will scrap the unconstitutional and repugnant E-Levy immediately".
"Perhaps the only positive outcome of an IMF bailout is that they wouldn’t allow President Akufo-Addo to obstinately continue with his insensitive, wasteful, oligarchic €20,000 an hour chartered luxury jet travels which have cost the suffering taxpayer over GHS34million in 13 months" he added.

You misinformed Ghanaians and frustrated the government so that it doesn’t get money to manage the economy. Now all of us will bear the consequences. The government who be bold enough to either slash or freeze your salary until the economy bounces back.
Ghanaians can be rest assured that the opposition party doesn't get political power because it is able to capitalize on the challenges the ruling party is going through. Not when the problems are caused by global crises rather than misgovernment and mismanagement of the economy in general. The challenges are genuine, and the government has not run away from them and is candid with the good people of Ghana. It appears the NDC is winning the battle, so to speak, but bearing ill intensions towards your opponent does not win you any game, be it political or not. Discerning Ghanaians are not so apolitical and misinformed as to believe the lies and triviality of the NDC's vile propaganda. There is no way that the e-levy is going to fail. It's just the beginning and I believe it is going to kick in massively with time. At least the government tried to raise funds internally rather than just rushing to the IMF for a bailout. Let the NDC continue to live in a ***barred word***'s paradise.Instead of stating what it would have done better as an opposition party than to throw dirt in the eyes of Ghanaians for cheap political gains. The e-levy is not going to be cancelled, and your diabolism is going to be counterproductive.
This ***barred word*** does not seem to know how their evil political machinations against the government is hurting ordinary Ghanaians. You just want to run down the government for your party to look good. If this government does not stand there will be a military coup and both NPP and NDC will suffer for it. I know you will attempt to run to Europe but it will be too late. You could be killed in the cross fire. So be careful with the way you are frustrating Ghanaians
